Choosing the Right Mattress for You
Step 1: Time for an upgrade?
We recommend replacing your mattress every eight years. That's when a mattress may start to break down and sag. But if you're experiencing pain or trouble sleeping on your current mattress, it's time to get a new one.
Step 2: Foam or hybrid?
Foam is the most common style among online mattress brands. Foam mattresses — which can include cooling gel, memory foam, or latex — have a cushioning feel that hugs and contours to the body.
Hybrid is the other popular type of mattress. They use a combination of foam and coils in their construction. Hybrid mattresses have a more traditional, springy feel. Heavier people (over 200 pounds) may also prefer the extra support of a hybrid mattress.
Step 3: What's your budget?
You can find a good-quality mattress at around $500 CAD (for a queen). A mattress with premium features and luxury materials will cost over $1,000. We don't suggest spending any more than $2,000 on a mattress; it just isn't worth it!
Step 4: Soft, medium, or firm?
Our third-party engineers measure firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest.
Most sleepers will enjoy a mattress in the medium to medium-firm range, but you may want to adjust based on your sleep position, weight, or other needs (more on that below).
Step 5: How do you sleep?
Side sleepers may prefer a softer mattress to cushion their shoulders and hips. Whereas back or stomach sleepers may want a firmer sleep surface to make sure their spine stays in proper alignment.
Lighter people (under 150 pounds) may prefer a softer mattress. Whereas heavier people (over 200 pounds) may need the extra support of a firmer mattress.
People who sleep with a partner or pets will want to get a mattress with good motion isolation (meaning it absorbs vibration from one side of the bed to the other).
Do you sleep hot? Be sure to get a mattress with temperature-regulating technology, like cooling gel foam or foam made with copper or graphite.
Benefits of Buying Online
Cost savings due to lower overheadOnline mattress companies can offer much better prices than traditional brick-and-mortar stores. How? Think of all the costs that go into managing a mattress store: floor space, staff, advertising, power, restocking, and more. Online mattresses cut out the middle man and deliver the savings on to you.
Widespread customer reviewsToday's top online mattress brands have tens of thousands of verified customer reviews. If you're not 100% sure before ordering, just browse the feedback from real shoppers like you.
Easy ordering & fast shippingMost online mattress companies have free shipping to major metro areas across Canada. Plus, the mattress arrives at your doorstep in a box, so moving it to your bedroom is easy.
Better satisfaction guaranteesMost companies include a generous trial period of 100 nights or longer, with a 100% money-back guarantee. If you've slept on it at home for a few weeks and it's not perfect for you, the company will arrange a refund or exchange.
