Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
Gotta Sleep uses FedEx to deliver their products directly to customers’ doors. Shipping is free throughout most of Canada and Gotta Sleep customers can expect their new mattress to be delivered within 1 to 2 weeks depending on stock availability.
Gotta Sleep has a heavily-promoted sleep trial. At 101 nights, this sleep trial meets the industry standard. Customers who wish to return their OMG mattress are able to get the process started by finding and contacting a local non-profit and donating their mattress on the company’s behalf. Gotta Sleep then asks customers to provide them a donation receipt before refunds are released.
In order to be eligible for a refund, customers must buy a mattress protector; however, the cost of the mattress protector is not refunded along with the mattress.
It is worth noting that Mattress-Reviews.com did not complete the return process, but received this information via the ‘Returns FAQ’ on Gotta Sleep’s website.
OMG Gotta Sleep Mattress: Out of the Box

We received the OMG mattress we ordered through Gotta Sleep’s website within the expected time frame. The product arrived with punctures and discoloration on the box, though otherwise in good condition. Specialist bed-in-a-box retailers typically include multiple layers of durable plastic in the packaging in order to compensate for any mishaps that may occur during transit.
The OMG mattress box was sealed with staples. This meant that scissors were not required to open the box as only a firm grip was needed to pull it open. When opening this box, customers need to be mindful of the industrial staples which could cause harm to either themselves or the mattress.
Once opened, the compressed mattress fits snugly inside of the box but otherwise isn’t too difficult to remove. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. While the box does have cutout handles, the tight fit of the mattress makes them very difficult to use. It is most efficient to do this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
The OMG mattress is protected with four layers of plastic— three thick outer layers and a thick inner layer to keep the mattress tightly rolled in a cylinder shape.
Customers will need to slice open the outer layers to unroll the mattress, which will still be in its compressed form. Next, unfold the mattress and place it along the designated bed frame. Cut the final layer of plastic. With the vacuum seal now broken, the mattress will begin to decompress. Remove this final layer of plastic as the mattress expands to its full height. For the OMG mattress, full expansion took 4 minutes.

The OMG mattress is a combination foam mattress. By combining different foam types, densities, and firmness levels, Gotta Sleep has designed a configuration that offers a reasonable amount of comfort, cooling, and support.
The OMG mattress is available in one firmness option. Gotta Sleep has adopted the ‘one-size-fits-all’ that’s quite common among mattress-in-a-box retailers.
Gotta Sleep OMG Mattress Layers

The OMG mattress contains four layers of foam. Like many of the combination foam mattresses on the market today, these four layers work together to provide general comfort and support.
- First layer: 1 inch gel-infused memory foam. This layer helps with pressure-point relief and also contains graphite to assist with overall cooling. Foam density: Undisclosed.
- Second layer: 1 inch gel-infused memory foam. This second graphite-infused layer acts as a transition section to enhance the qualities of the layers above it and beneath. Foam density: Undisclosed.
- Third layer: 2 inches of unspecified transition foam. This layer reduces motion transfer while adding support. Foam density: Undisclosed.
- Fourth layer: 5 inches of support layer. This layer helps give the mattress its structure and shape while also offering support to the body. Foam density: 1.8lbs/ft3.
Of note: The Gotta Sleep website claims the foam used in the OMG mattress is CertiPUR-US® certified, but the company is not currently listed on the official list of CertiPUR-US® participating companies at the time of writing (November 27, 2019).
Gotta Sleep OMG Mattress Cover

The OMG mattress sports a two-toned cover with gray sidewalls and a white, patterned texture on top. This top portion has the words “Gotta Sleep” stitched into it alongside stitched rectangles of varying shapes. In addition, there are also larger lines running parallel across the cover. It should be noted that this cover is made of polyester. The zipper running underneath the mattress makes for easy removal of the cover.
Customers should be aware that while the white portion of the cover can be washed, the gray part cannot. As these sections are attached to each other even after the cover is unzipped, the OMG mattress’ cover is effectively spot-clean only.

Firmness: | 3.6 / 10 |
Edge support: | 4.5 / 10 |

Feel & Firmness
The OMG mattress classifies as a medium-soft mattress. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), it is rated at 3.6 / 10 on the firmness spectrum. Like many other memory foam mattresses, the OMG has quite a bit of ‘hug.’

Motion Isolation
Motion isolation in foam mattresses is usually very good and one of the main reasons couples make the switch from innerspring to memory foam. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the OMG mattress performed above average in this regard, rating at 6.4 / 10 on the motion isolation scale.

Edge Support
Foam and latex mattresses often have lower edge support scores than their spring and hybrid counterparts. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the OMG mattress is rated at 4.5 / 10 on the edge support scale.

Bounce
Due to the fact that motion isolation for foam mattresses is generally very good, bounce is consequently often very low. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the OMG mattress performed below average in this regard, rating at 2.8 / 10 for bounce. These results fall in line with the scores from other foam mattresses.

Who buys a Gotta Sleep OMG mattress?
The OMG mattress is designed to appeal to mid-market shoppers who are looking for a bed-in-a-box that won’t break the bank. Some of the OMG mattress’ strengths include its eye-catching design, its convenient zipper, as well as its use of cooling gel to promote temperature regulation. In addition, the company also offers free shipping throughout most of Canada.
Even with these positives, however, the OMG mattress does still have its weaknesses.
For one, although the mattress can be returned, the return process requires customers to make their own arrangements for the removal of the mattress. In addition, buyers will have to purchase a mattress protector along with the mattress before the company will accept the return. Despite having an above-average motion isolation score, the OMG mattress has low bounce scores and below-average edge support scores. Finally, in light of its 3.6 / 10 firmness rating, the OMG mattress may simply be too soft for customers who prioritize a greater amount of overall support, though it may delight those who prefer softer, pillowy mattresses. In this regard, the firmness score is consistent with the brand’s messaging about it being an alternative to hotel-style mattresses.
Buyers who are interested in a similar mattress that also offers full refunds, a machine-washable cover, and higher firmness, motion isolation, and edge support scores may want to read our Douglas review.
Ultimately, however, buyers looking for a soft mattress loaded with cooling features may still find a lot to like about the OMG mattress.
Buy an OMG mattress if you want:
- A mid-market mattress with lots of ‘hug’
- A foam mattress with above-average motion isolation
- A mattress made in Canada
