Silk + Snow is a small mattress company based out of Toronto, Ontario. They entered the bed-in-a-box market after completing a Kickstarter campaign in 2017, releasing a memory foam mattress. The company has well-defined international roots: the Silk + Snow sells both in Canada and the United States, with factories on both sides of the border. The company’s second line, the Silk + Snow Coil Hybrid, was released one year later in 2018.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
In Canada, Silk + Snow uses a variety of couriers to deliver their mattresses directly to customers’ doors, while sticking with UPS Ground Services in the United States. Shipping is free in the Canadian provinces and Contiguous U.S. Remote shipping fees apply elsewhere. In some cases, the delivery can even be left on a porch or deck while the customer is away from home. Customers can expect their new Silk + Snow mattress to arrive within 10 business days after placing their order.
Like many bed-in-a-box companies, Silk + Snow heavily promotes their in-home sleep trial. At 100 nights, this sleep trial is around the average for online bed-in-a-box brands. In the event of a return, Silk + Snow offers free mattress pickup and a full refund.

The Silk + Snow mattress was delivered to us within the expected time frame. The mattress was well protected by heavy-duty plastic layers within the box to protect the product during shipping.
Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the box. To prevent potential harm to your new mattress, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to remove any packaging.
Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide out the mattress from its cardboard packaging. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. We advise completing this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
The Silk + Snow mattress is protected with six layers of plastic – one thinner layer to compress it in a vacuum seal, and five thicker layers to keep it tightly rolled in a cylinder shape.
Customers will need to unwrap the outer layers in order to unroll the mattress, which will still be in its compressed form. Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled up mattress onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find and peel back the outer layer of plastic. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattress will rest unrolled before you.
Next, cut the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal now broken, the Silk + Snow mattress will quickly begin to decompress. Remove this final layer of plastic as the mattress expands to its full height. With the Silk + Snow mattress, full expansion took 1 minute.

Silk + Snow is a 10-inch combination foam mattress. By pairing together different foam types and firmness levels, Silk + Snow has designed a configuration that offers reasonable comfort and support.
The Silk + Snow mattress is available only in one firmness option. This is standard for the one-size-fits-all approach commonly used by bed-in-a-box companies.
Silk and Snow Mattress Layers

The Silk + Snow mattress contains three layers:
- First layer: 2 inches of high-density gel memory foam. This top layer aids in preventing pressure points while letting you sink into the mattress. High-density memory foam is known for its durability and longevity. Layer density: 4 lbs/ft³.
- Second layer: 2 inches transition foam. This transition layer serves double duty by both reinforcing the motion isolating qualities of the mattress and adding to the support properties of the layer below. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft³.
- Third layer: 6 inches of support foam. This bottom layer makes up the foundation of the mattress, providing the overall integrity of the bed and keeping you from sinking in too deep. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft³.
Of note: The Silk + Snow website also states that the foam layers include “natural seed-based oils such as soybeans,” though it is left unspecified which layers include this property.
Silk and Snow Mattress Cover

The top cover of the Silk + Snow mattress has a distinct design that evokes its brand name. Up top, the fabric is tufted in snowy white waves that advertise the cushioning directly beneath the cover. The lower portion is diamond-tufted in dark blue with a silky sheen. The cover materials listed on the law label are polyester (98%) and spandex (2%).
The top portion of the Silk + Snow cover can be unzipped, removed, and cleaned in the washing machine. Like the Recore latex mattress, the cover also includes a silver element that is said to have antimicrobial properties.

Silk and Snow Mattress: Feel and Firmness
Feel & Firmness | Silk + Snow |

Firmness | 4.1 / 10 |
Edge support: | 5.2 / 10 |

Feel & Firmness
Silk + Snow is a medium-soft mattress. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), it comes in at a 4.1 / 10 on the firmness spectrum. The Silk + Snow mattress has plenty of ‘hug,’ and the comfort layer gives it an extra degree of softness as you lie down.

Motion Isolation
Motion isolation in softer foam mattresses is usually very good and one of the main reasons couples consider switching to foam-based beds. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), minimal motion transfer was detected with the Silk + Snow mattress: it rated 7.6 /10 on the motion isolation scale.

Edge Support
Foam mattresses are not known for their edge support; in fact, it is often one of the main considerations for customers who move from innerspring mattresses to foam. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Silk + Snow mattress has an edge support rating at 5.2 / 10. This rates in the middle of the pack for a bed-in-a-box.

Bounce
Due to the fact that motion isolation for foam mattresses is very high, bounce is usually very low. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Silk + Snow mattress ranked 2.5 / 10 on the bounce scale. This is to be expected for a thicker, medium-soft mattress with lots of hug.

Who buys a Silk and Snow mattress?
Like most new brands, Silk + Snow has the task of converting customers who come into the bed-in-a-box space with other mattresses in mind. The North American company presents its case with a two-inch high-density memory foam layer and an eye-catching cover (one that is promoted for its antimicrobial properties). Mattress shoppers most likely to be enticed by Silk + Snow’s original foam mattress will be those looking for a mattress with lots of ‘hug,’ as well as those who prioritize high-density foam in their purchase decision. The mattress is also manufactured in the country of order, whether the United States or Canada.
Silk + Snow buyers are also likely looking for something very specific in their mattress. This is due to its placement among other brands. As a single-firmness mattress, Silk + Snow doesn’t offer the multiple models or adjustable comfort options of Novosbed. As such, those looking to purchase a Silk + Snow mattress must lean more heavily on verified customer reviews.
Buy Silk and Snow if you want:
- A high-density memory foam top layer
- A machine-washable top cover
- A mattress made in North America
- A medium-soft feel with hug
- Seed-based eco foams
