Product Overview
The IKEA MATRAND is a memory foam mattress sold by IKEA. It’s advertised as a firm mattress, has a machine-washable cover, and is made of 2 layers of foam, stacking to a total height of 7″. In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, MATRAND had a very good score in motion isolation and a great score in edge support. Priced at $599 for a queen-size, your IKEA mattress comes with a 90-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty.
While MATRAND has been discontinued, you can still read our review of the mattress below. The information on this page applies to the mattress at the time we bought it. Check out our other IKEA mattress reviews for more updated models, like the IKEA VALEVAG or ABROTTEN.
Or, if you’re still in the market for a budget foam mattress, the Canadian-made Juno mattress is worth a look. At a lower price of $499 for a queen-size, it offers a medium-firm feel that’s more suited to most sleepers, a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and comes with a free bedding bundle that includes a sheet set, pillow(s), and a mattress protector.

IKEA MATRAND Mattress Construction
The IKEA MATRAND is a 2-layer memory foam mattress that comes in one firmness option. It's 7" tall, and has a firm feel. It scored well in edge support and motion isolation, and offers a below-average level of bounce.
Mattress Layers
The IKEA MATRAND contains 2 layers of foam:
- 1st Layer: 2" of viscoelastic polyurethane memory foam to conform to your body, adding support and some pressure point relief.
- 2nd Layer: 5" of polyurethane foam to provide a supportive base for sleepers.
Mattress Cover
IKEA's MATRAND has a plain white cover across the top and sides of the mattress, with stitched lines running in parallel. The top cover is made of a polyester-blend which incorporates 36% cotton, according to the law label of the mattress we bought. The cover is also machine-washable.
Mattress Testing
To ensure our mattress reviews are thorough and trustworthy, we buy the products ourselves and have them tested by independent licensed engineers (commissioned by us) with no stake in the results.
These third-party engineers apply a consistent testing process to every mattress using a detailed framework. Every mattress is tested the same way, whether it's foam or hybrid. Because these types perform differently, we rate them on separate scales to ensure the scores are fair and meaningful.
We believe independent testing is essential to producing reliable and meaningful comparisons. That's why all test results are reviewed and signed off by an APEGA-certified engineer, operating under a strict code of ethics.
We use the testing results and over 40 criteria to build our scoring methodology.
Tests and reviews without this level of professional oversight may be more prone to errors and unintended bias.

Delivery & Other Policies
Note: IKEA MATRAND is discontinued in Canada, and the following information was accurate at the time this review was written.
IKEA ships mattresses to most regions in Canada using FedEx. Delivery costs vary by location, starting at $39 for contactless doorstep service or $59 for in-home delivery.
The MATRAND mattress includes a 90-night sleep trial, which is shorter than the industry average length of 100 nights. Under IKEA's policy for their mattresses, returns are limited to a one-time exchange or a refund in the form of store credit; cash refunds are not offered. If you choose a replacement mattress that costs more, you'll need to pay the difference. The mattress also comes with a 10-year warranty.
Mattresses don't need to be compressed or rolled up again for return, but IKEA requires that you cover the mattress for transport using a plastic sheet, protective cover, or a mattress bag (sold at IKEA's delivery counter). Pickup service is available for a fee, provided the mattress is clean and undamaged.
If you are looking for a longer sleep trial with free return pickups and a longer warranty, you can consider Juno. It offers a 120-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty for a lower price.

Customer Reviews & Feedback
Third-party review sites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot collect and publish customer feedback about companies and their products, and aren't controlled by the companies being reviewed. They offer a snapshot of overall customer satisfaction and highlight common issues shoppers might face. Checking ratings on sites like these can be a useful way for customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.
Despite the company's long reputation and affordable product lines, the company is rated "C-" (unaccredited) on Better Business Bureau with 1.23/5 stars. IKEA is also rated "Bad" on Trustpilot with a customer review rating of 1.4 out of 5 stars.
Should You Buy IKEA MATRAND?
IKEA's MATRAND is a low-cost, entry-level memory foam mattress that may appeal to Canadians looking for a firm bed from a popular retailer. It has good edge support and motion isolation. But its firm feel might not work for everyone. It also doesn't use CertiPUR-US® certified foam. All in all, the MATRAND could be a match if you want:
- To buy your mattress from a major retailer like IKEA
- A firm mattress
That said, you might want to consider the Canadian-made Juno instead, which costs $499 for a queen-size. It comes with a 120-night sleep trial, free returns (and return pickups) with full refunds and a 15-year warranty. You also get a free bedding bundle.

All the content on our site, from product reviews to comparisons, is intended to provide general information to help guide your mattress search. We work with independent third-party engineers to test all mattress products we purchase, and we use the test results alongside public data to inform our reviews and comparisons.
The product details in each review reflect how the mattress performed at the time we purchased and tested it, as shown by the "Published" date.
Since brands can update their materials, pricing, or availability over time, we also note when the product was originally purchased, either directly in the article or on our disclaimer page, to maintain clarity and transparency.
If you see an "Updated" tag on a page with a more recent date than the published date, it simply means we've made editorial changes. It does not necessarily indicate any update to the mattress or its test data.
Finally, unless otherwise stated, any mention of where a mattress is made refers specifically to the product we received and tested.
