Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt Teal

Meet the Mattress

The Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt Teal mattress is a medium-firm 12″ memory foam model designed for pressure relief and support. It offers solid edge support but comes at a higher-than-average price, with fewer cooling features than some similarly priced competitors.

Octave and Tempur-Pedic are two popular mattress brands in Canada. Both Octave Horizon and Tempur-Pedic are medium-firm memory foam mattresses with good edge support, and both mattresses are designed for comfort, cooling, and support, but each brings its own uniqueness to the table when it comes to getting a great night’s sleep.

When we compared Octave vs Tempur-Pedic, the Octave outscored the Tempur-Pedic with an overall score of 9.4/10 compared to Tempur-Pedic’s score of 3.7/10. Octave earned points for its affordable price, its features, longer sleep trials, and a longer warranty.

The Tempur-Pedic costs $5,399 for a queen and comes with a 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty by default. Tempur-Pedic is owned by Somnigroup International.

Octave Horizon, on the other hand, provides a longer 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty at $5,399 for a queen. Octave offers higher motion isolation, good pressure point relief, and more cooling features at a more affordable price. Octave is part of the GoodMorning.com family.

If you’re deciding between these two popular mattresses, we’ve put together a detailed comparison to help you make the right decision.

The Octave Horizon is a medium-firm memory foam mattress that's designed to keep you cool, supported, and comfortable through the night. Octave Horizon is the top model in the Octave lineup, offering premium features with a supportive design at a reasonable price.

If you're someone who needs pressure relief or better spinal alignment, this mattress could be a great fit. It features a five-zoned support system designed to support areas like your shoulders, hips, and lower back, plus aerated latex foam and responsive Elastex® foam to add a gentle bounce and help reduce motion transfer, which is ideal if you share your bed.

If you're a hot sleeper, you'll appreciate the CryoFusionnanofibres cover, which feels cool to the touch and helps prevent overheating. Additionally, the CopperGel™ infused memory foam enhances heat dissipation. The Horizon mattress features advanced cooling in every layer, earning it the highest cooling score we've seen, an impressive 9.0/10.

At just $1,499 for a queen, Octave Horizon comes in with a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle, which includes a sheet set, pillow(s), mattress protector, and pillow protector(s).

Mattress Construction

Both Octave Horizon and Tempur-Pedic mattresses use a multi-layer foam construction designed to offer a balance of comfort, support, and breathability.

Octave Horizon

Side angle photo showing the internal layers of the Octave Horizon mattress

  • 1st Layer: 2.5" of CopperGel™ memory foam infused with PolarMAX® phase-change material. Copper helps keep the surface fresh, while phase-change materials adjust to your body temperature through the night, allowing for a comfortable night's sleep.
  • 2nd Layer: 1.5" of aerated latex with hundreds of air vents. These vents help with airflow, making the mattress more breathable and helping to control temperature for a better sleep experience.
  • 3rd Layer: 2" of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam to absorb heat from the upper layers while adding contouring around the body for pressure-point relief, soothing muscles and reducing tension.
  • 4th Layer: 2" of Elastex® foam that cushions the body and adds a bit of extra bounce for responsiveness, without losing motion isolation.
  • 5th Layer: 6" of high-density, zoned support foam provides ergonomic support for your back, hips, and knees, promoting proper spinal alignment and pressure point relief. This foam also includes air channels for extra cooling airflow.

The Octave Horizon mattress stands 14" tall and is made up of a combination of 5 foam layers that work together to promote proper spinal alignment. Each layer of foam is CertiPUR-US® certified.

Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt Teal

close up side view of the internal layers of the Tempur Pedic ProAdapt Teal mattress

  • 1st Layer: 1" of aerated TEMPUR® Material, which uses an open-cell design to retain less heat and promote greater airflow.
  • 2nd Layer: 2" of Advanced Relief® Material, which offers a similar slow-responding, body-hugging sensation.
  • 3rd Layer: 3" of what appears to be standard polyurethane foam. It isn't described on Tempur-Pedic's or Sleep Country's websites, but based on available information, it likely serves as a transition layer between the softer top layers and the firm base.
  • 4th Layer: 5" convoluted (egg-crate style) polyurethane foam. This base layer provides overall support, promotes airflow, and helps the mattress's pressure-relieving qualities.

The remaining 1″ is accounted for in the outer and inner covers. The outer cover is removable and is made from a blend of polyester, polyethylene, and spandex, giving it a cool-to-the-touch feel that adds to the mattress's overall comfort, while the inner cover is a thin layer of blue fabric beneath described as the "High-Stretch Performance Panel" designed to work with the foam underneath to enhance pressure relief.

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, both Octave and Tempur-Pedic mattresses landed in the medium-firm range. That firmness level works well for most sleep styles, whether you sleep on your back, stomach, or side.

Both mattresses also performed well for edge support, but the Horizon performed better for motion isolation, and also has the advantage of cooling, which is a plus for hot sleepers. Good motion isolation is important if you share your bed and want undisturbed sleep. It helps limit the transfer of movement and keep your partner's movements from waking you at night. This can be a big plus for couples or anyone who wakes up easily.

Edge support matters too, especially for people who like to sit or sleep near the edge. A stronger edge means more stability and less feeling that you might slide off.

Where Octave Differs:

  • Octave Horizon consistently scored very good results for motion isolation and edge support, rating at 7.6/10 for motion isolation in third-party engineer testing that we commissioned. This outperforms Tempur-Pedic motion isolation.
  • Horizon outperforms Tempur-Pedic in its cooling features, earning an 7.6/10. If you tend to sleep hot, you'll like its cover with CryoFusionnanofibres that feels cool to the touch, and CopperGel™ memory foam that helps pull heat away. If you want to stay comfortable all night, breathable layers and airflow channels keep the mattress fresh and cool.

Where Tempur-Pedic Differs:

  • Tempur-Pedic has a below-average motion isolation score, indicating that this mattress is quite sensitive to movements such as getting out of bed and changing positions. If you share your bed, you will feel little movements when they are made. If you are a light sleeper, then we will recommend a mattress with higher motion isolation for an undisturbed sleep experience.
  • Tempur-Pedic scored a lower 3.7/10 for cooling features. It did earn some points for its Cool-to-the-touch mattress cover, heat-wicking cooling gel foam, and open-cell TEMPUR-Material™ for heat dissipation, which helps improve airflow through the mattress.

Octave

Octave Horizon ships mattresses with FedEx and delivers for free to most areas in Canada, usually within 3–10 business days. Octave offers a longer sleep trial of the two mattress brands at 365 nights, plus a longer 15-year warranty. If you return your Octave Horizon mattress during the sleep trial, Octave will arrange to pick it up and issue a full refund, all for free.

Plus, Octave organizes any mattresses returned during the trial to be donated to a local charity. In the case there aren't any charities near you, the company will have the mattress responsibly recycled.

Tempur-Pedic

When ordered from Sleep Country Canada, the Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt Teal mattress typically arrives within 3–10 business days. It offers 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty.

Where Sleep Country is different from Octave is that the company doesn't offer mattress pick-ups for returns or full refunds. Instead, if you return your mattress during the sleep trial, you'll get in-store credit (minus a $65 exchange fee) to use towards a different Sleep Country product. If your next pick is more expensive, you'll cover the difference in price.
