Top-Rated Canadian Foam Mattress
Douglas Original outscored Casper in head-to-head mattress testing, according to our scoring methodology that factors in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us).
We include edge support and motion isolation in our overall mattress score, and we present these results using a simple colour system: green (5.0 and above), yellow (3.0–4.9), and red (2.9 and below). Cooling features aren’t part of the final rating, but we still use the same colour scale to show how each mattress performs. Firmness and bounce are more a matter of personal preference, so we display those scores in grey and exclude them from the overall score.

The Casper is the upgraded all-foam option from Casper Canada. At $1,499 for a queen-size, The Casper comes in one firmness level: medium-firm. We commissioned third-party engineers to test the mattress, and they found Casper had very good edge support, good motion isolation, and a low level of bounce. It's made with perforated and open-cell foam, designed to promote airflow while still offering that signature Casper feel.
If you buy a mattress directly from Casper Canada, like we did, you'll get a 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty with your mattress, plus the option to return it for free and for a full refund. You can also buy this mattress from Sleep Country, although they only offer a one-time exchange on their mattresses for a $65 fee. Sleep Country also won't pick up the mattress for you.

Both Casper and Douglas mattresses are designed with a combination foam structure. Both mattresses have 3 layers and measure 10" tall.

The Douglas Original has a white, mountainscape cover with a bold red zipper that runs along the sidewall. The top cover is removable and machine washable, making it easy to keep clean. It's made with plant-based Infinitex™ fibres that help wick away moisture and keep the surface cool and breathable. This is a valuable feature for hot sleepers or for those who simply want a cooler sleep surface. This stretch-knit fabric feels soft but holds up well over time.

The Casper mattress features a clean, modern design with two shades of heather grey for a subtle, colour-blocked look. The cover isn't removable, so you'll need to spot clean it as needed. According to the law tag, it's made from a blend of polyester, recycled materials (including polyester and cotton), regular cotton, viscose, and spandex.

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, both Douglas Original and The Casper landed in the medium-firm range. That level of firmness tends to work well for most sleep styles, whether you sleep on your back, stomach, or side.
Both mattresses also have below-average levels of bounce for all-foam mattresses. Low bounce is more common in foam mattresses, and helps create a surface with "hug" and that responds more slowly to movement.
When it came to motion isolation and edge support, Douglas and Casper both earned strong scores. Douglas performed better in the motion isolation category, while Casper's score was slightly higher for edge support. Either mattress should work well if you share a mattress with a partner or like to sleep or sit near the edges of your bed.
Where Douglas Differs:
Where Casper Differs:
These third-party engineers apply a consistent testing process to every mattress using a detailed framework. Every mattress is tested the same way, whether it's foam or hybrid. Because these types perform differently, we rate them on separate scales to ensure the scores are fair and meaningful.
We believe independent testing is essential to producing reliable and meaningful comparisons. That's why all test results are reviewed and signed off by an APEGA-certified engineer, operating under a strict code of ethics.
We use the testing results and over 40 criteria to build our scoring methodology.
Tests and reviews without this level of professional oversight may be more prone to errors and unintended bias.

Douglas offers a longer sleep trial of the two mattress brands at 365 nights, plus a longer 20-year warranty. If you return your Douglas mattress during the sleep trial, Douglas will arrange to pick it up and issue a full refund, all for free.
Plus, Douglas organizes any mattresses returned during the trial to be donated to a local charity. In the case there aren't any charities near you, the company will have the mattress responsibly recycled.
Casper Canada ships mattresses for free to most places in the country, but they currently only deliver accessories to the Territories. If you're in a major city, your mattress should show up at your door in about 5–15 business days, packed in a box.
Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty, fairly standard for online mattresses. If you buy directly from Casper's website or store, returns are free during the trial, and you'll get a full refund.
Buying from a third-party retailer like Sleep Country is a bit different. They only allow exchanges and charge a $65 fee. You'll also have to bring the mattress back to the store yourself.

The product details in each review reflect how the mattress performed at the time we purchased and tested it, as shown by the "Published" date.
Since brands can update their materials, pricing, or availability over time, we also note when the product was originally purchased, either directly in the article or on our disclaimer page, to maintain clarity and transparency.
If you see an "Updated" tag on a page with a more recent date than the published date, it simply means we've made editorial changes. It does not necessarily indicate any update to the mattress or its test data.
Finally, unless otherwise stated, any mention of where a mattress is made refers specifically to the product we received and tested.
