The Douglas Original Hybrid and Emma Original are hybrid mattresses with layers of foam and individually pocketed coils. The Douglas Hybrid measures 12" tall and has 4 layers. The Emma Original also has 4 layers, but is shorter than Douglas at 10".

• 1st Layer: 2" ecoLift® cooling gel foam that relieves pressure points and keeps heat from building up.
• 2nd Layer: 1" Elastex® transition foam that cushions, contours, and provides extra bounce.
• 3rd Layer: 8" Exoforge™ individually pocketed coils that give extra support under the hips and lower back, with foam around the edges for better edge support.
• 4th Layer: 1" motion-isolation support foam that acts as a solid base and helps reduce movement across the bed.

The Douglas Original Hybrid is finished with Douglas's signature CoolSense® cover, designed with a mountain-style pattern and a red zipper that runs all the way around the mattress. This full-perimeter zipper lets you easily remove the top cover, which is machine-washable for easy cleaning. The fabric is woven with Infinitex™ fibres that draw moisture away from the body to help you sleep cooler, while its breathable construction helps reduce odours over time.

The Emma Original features a clean, minimalist cover in white and grey, with darker side panels for contrast and the brand's logo positioned near the bottom. The top layer of the cover is soft to the touch (although it's made with 100% polyester) and can be removed and machine-washed for easy care.

Mattress Performance

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, both of these mattresses earned great edge support scores. The Douglas Original Hybrid scored 8.3/10, and the Emma Original scored slightly higher at 8.5/10. These scores are really similar, so either mattress should be comfortable when you sit on the edge. Both mattresses also have higher-than-average levels of bounce.

Where Douglas Differs:

• The Douglas Original Hybrid scored 6.0/10 for firmness, putting the mattress in our medium-firm category. Medium-firm is an ideal firmness level for back, stomach, and side sleepers, so you should find it comfortable and supportive in any position.
• For motion isolation, the Douglas Original Hybrid received a standout score of 9.0/10. You shouldn't notice most of your partner's movements across the mattress at night, which can help you sleep more undisturbed.
