The Octave Horizon mattress is a memory foam mattress available in one firmness option. It's built with 5 foam layers, and falls into the medium-firm category according to third-party engineer tests (commissioned by us). It scored well in edge support and motion isolation, and has plenty of cooling features to ensure you stay cool and comfortable throughout the night.

Mattress Layers

The Octave Horizon has 5 layers of foam and measures 14" tall. Horizon gets its comfort, support, and cooling by using:

  • 1st Layer: 2.5" of CopperGel™ memory foam infused with PolarMAX® phase-change material. Copper helps keep the surface fresh, while phase-change materials adjust to your body temperature through the night, allowing for a comfortable night's sleep.
  • 2nd Layer: 1.5" of aerated latex with hundreds of air vents. These vents help with airflow, making the mattress more breathable and helping to control temperature for a better sleep experience.
  • 3rd Layer: 2" of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam to absorb heat from the upper layers while adding contouring around the body for pressure-point relief, soothing muscles and reducing tension.
  • 4th Layer: 2" of Elastex® foam that cushions the body and adds a bit of extra bounce for responsiveness, without losing motion isolation.
  • 5th Layer: 6" of high-density, zoned support foam provides ergonomic support for your back, hips, and knees, promoting proper spinal alignment and pressure point relief. This foam also includes air channels for extra cooling airflow.

Mattress Cover

Octave Horizon has an interesting cover design featuring a white top cover with blue accents woven throughout in a wave pattern. The sides are blue, and the Octave brand is prominently displayed at the foot of the bed, along with a description of Horizon's features.

Horizon's cover is soft-touch, with more CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres than any other Octave mattress. These work with the mattress's other cooling features to wick moisture away from the body, keeping your sleep cool and dry. The top cover is removable with an all-around zipper and is machine washable.

Mattress Testing

/10

Made in

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Octave Horizon scored 6.0/10 for firmness. This places the mattress in our "medium-firm" category. Generally speaking, medium-firm mattresses are comfortable for all sleep styles and body types.

Horizon cushions and contours the body with its premium foam layers. The mattress provides comfort and support to relieve stress on your body, promoting proper spinal alignment, pressure-point relief, and recovery from tension, aches, and pains.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress sinks under applied weight. The lower the score out of 10, the softer the mattress.

6.0

/10

Edge Support

Edge support is important if you enjoy sitting or sleeping at the edge of your bed. Foam mattresses often struggle with edge support due to foam's tendency to squish and compress under weight. However, Octave Horizon has good edge support, earning a score of 6.8/10. You'll feel comfortable lying anywhere on the mattress, and don't have to worry about slipping off the edge.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress edge sinks under applied weight. A mattress with average to good edge support will score 5/10 or higher.

Cooling Features

As the most advanced mattress in the Octave lineup, Horizon is built with lots of innovative cooling technologies in its layers to maximize its cooling performance for a more refreshing sleep. Octave Horizon has the best cooling features score out of any mattress we've reviewed, scoring 9.0/10. This score is based on its:

  1. Top cover that wicks sweat from the body, with CryoFusionnanofibres for a cool-to-the-touch feel.
  2. CopperGel™ infused memory foam for heat dispersion
  3. PolarMAX® phase-change material that adapts to body temperature and resists heating up during the night.
  4. Aerated latex that features hundreds of air vents, adding breathability
  5. Cooling gel foam for even more enhanced cooling
  6. Elastex®, a breathable latex-like foam that ensures air circulation
  7. Open-cell foams which enhance the breathability of the mattress
  8. Support layer with air channels that increase airflow to the lower levels of the mattress

With cooling technologies featured in all 5 layers, Horizon excels at regulating temperature to give a cooler sleep experience. Compared to other high-end mattresses with similar features, Horizon is priced far lower, at just $1,499 for a queen-size.

Our Rating
?

Determined by entering a mattress's cooling features into our scoring algorithm. The more effective cooling features that are present, the higher the score out of 10.

Motion Isolation

If you're a light sleeper or share a bed, you'll want a mattress that minimizes motion transfer. Octave Horizon has a very good motion isolation score of 7.6/10. The mattress's layers of foam cushion your body and prevent your partner's movements on the bed from waking you up.

Our Rating
?

Determined by measuring a medicine ball's impact on the mattress. Average to good motion isolation would be 5/10 or higher.

7.6

/10

Bounce

For most sleepers, bounce is a matter of personal preference. Bounce measures how quickly the mattress returns to its original shape after you sit or lie down on it. Mattresses with high bounce have a more responsive surface, making it easier to move around and switch positions. On the other hand, a mattress with less bounce can help offer more cushioning and keep movements from disturbing your partner.

Octave Horizon has a below-average bounce score of 3.8/10, which is not unusual for a foam mattress. That said, its aerated latex and Elastex® foam layers provide sleepers a responsive surface to change positions while enjoying a good night's sleep.

Our Rating
?

Determined by dropping a medicine ball onto the mattress. The higher the first bounce, the higher the score out of 10.

GoodMorning.com

Octave is made by GoodMorning.com, Canada's largest independent online mattress retailer. It launched in 2023, replacing Novosbed, the company's flagship mattress line. GoodMorning.com started in 2009 and was the first in Canada to offer a 100+ night in-home sleep trial with its mattresses. Octave builds on that foundation with a refreshed lineup designed to deliver even more comfort, support, and cooling.

The Octave collection includes three models: Vista, Mirage, and Horizon. Each one is made to suit different sleep needs and comes with features like copper-infused memory foam, advanced cooling layers, and five-zoned support for spinal alignment. Octave also performs well for motion isolation and pressure relief, making it a strong choice for sleepers looking for a modern memory foam mattress.
