Sealy Posturepedic and Logan & Cove are two well-known players in the Canadian mattress scene, and both brands have built up a loyal Canadian customer base. So, what are the backgrounds of Sealy Posturepedic and Logan & Cove?
Sealy’s involvement in the mattress industry goes back to the 1880s, with the company taking its name from the Texas town where it first began producing made-to-order mattresses. The business grew rapidly and became an industry leader by the 1920s, contributing to many innovations and patents. The Posturepedic line was launched in the early 1950s, with an overall goal to “provide technology that delivers deep, targeted support right where you need it.” The large company also owns the other industry well-known mattress brand Stearns & Foster.
However, the Sealy Posturepedic line has seen significant competition in recent years from online mattress brands like Novosbed, innovative companies who ship directly to buyers and bypass the brick-and-mortar retail model.
After nearly a full decade of research by GoodMorning.com, the Logan & Cove mattress was released in early 2018. It quickly grew to become one of the best-selling boxed hybrid mattresses in Canada, even outpacing some brands that had helped define the segment. The combination of premium materials with luxury styling is still seen as an attractive alternative to similar retail store models which sell for up to a few thousand dollars more.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
Delivery
Delivery of the Sealy Posturepedic mattress will vary by retailer based on stock availability and shipping schedules, averaging between 3 to 10 days to arrive after order confirmation. The model used in this review – the Posturepedic Optimum Guilford mattress – was ordered at Sleep Country Canada and was delivered within the estimated time frame.
Mattress retailers often use their own delivery service to deliver Sealy Posturepedic mattresses. The delivery is often ‘white glove,’ which means that the mattress is delivered to the room of your choice, placed on the surface of choice, the packaging is removed, and the old mattress is taken away.
Logan & Cove use FedEx to deliver their mattresses directly to customers’ doors, and shipping is free throughout Canada. In some cases, the mattresses can even be left on a porch or deck while the customer is away from home. The Logan & Cove mattress also arrived within the expected delivery time frame.
Trial Period
Each mattress retailer who stocks and sells Sealy Posturepedic mattresses may or may not offer a sleep trial. Those who purchase a Sealy Posturepedic mattress in Canada may be offered a sleep trial window, a period of time to test the mattress at home and return or exchange it within an announced time frame. These policies, along with fee and warranty structures, are dependent on the retailer.
Like many bed-in-a-box companies, Logan & Cove heavily promotes their in-home sleep trial. With a 120-night sleep trial, Logan & Cove has one of the longest sleep trials of all mattress brands.
Returns and Additional Fees
Mattress buyers in Canada who choose to purchase a Sealy Posturepedic mattress at a retail store may incur restocking fees for returned mattresses; again, this is dependent on the individual retailer’s terms and conditions.
If a customer wishes to return their Logan & Cove mattress within the sleep trial period, the company will arrange to pick up their respective mattress and issue a full refund. There are no additional return or restocking fees for the Logan & Cove mattress.

The Sealy Posturepedic mattress is not delivered in a box. Depending on the retailer, white-glove delivery service is often included in the price of a Sealy Posturepedic mattress.
Logan & Cove
The Logan & Cove mattress arrived in a box sealed with heavy-duty tape. Inside the box, the mattress was well-protected with layers of heavy-duty plastic. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the box. To prevent potential harm to your new mattress, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to remove any packaging.
Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. Use a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattress out from its cardboard container. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. We recommend you do this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
The mattresses is protected with two layers of heavy-duty plastic – one to compress it in a vacuum seal, and another to keep it tightly rolled in a cylinder shape.
Customers will need to unwrap the first layer in order to unroll the mattress, which will still be in its compressed form. Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled up mattress onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find and peel back the outer layer of plastic. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattress will be lying unrolled before you.
Next, cut the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal now broken, the mattress will quickly begin to decompress. Remove this final layer of plastic as the mattress expands to its full height. With Logan & Cove, full expansion took 1 minute.

The Sealy Posturepedic and Logan & Cove mattresses are constructed very differently. The Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Guilford mattress tested in this review is a combination foam mattress, whereas the Logan & Cove is a foam-coil hybrid. While the Logan & Cove is available in two distinct firmness options, Sealy Posturepedic offers an entire line of different configurations and firmness levels to choose from.
Some of the other major differences between the Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Guilford mattress and the Logan & Cove are the different types of foams used for comfort, contouring, and pressure-point relief, not to mention the support layers for motion isolation and edge support. Each mattress contains comfort, transition, and support layers, and these layers vary slightly in height and density.
As well, each mattress has a unique top cover which showcases the brand’s personality and design aesthetic.
Logan & Cove is proudly made with foams, coils, and fabrics sourced from Canadian manufacturers.
Sealy Posturepedic vs Logan & Cove Mattress Layers

Logan & Cove

Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Layers
The Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Guilford mattress contains six layers of foam from its pillow top down to its bottom support tier:
- The top comfort layers of the Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Guilford mattress are a combined 4.5″ of OptiCool™ Gel Memory Foam. This collection of gel-infused foam is designed to remove excess heat while giving the mattress surface a bit of “hug.”
- The middle transitions layers of the Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Guilford mattress are a combined 3.5″ of Optisense™ Memory Foam. These layer works with the first comfort layer to provide an element of support, reducing motion transfer, providing a stable sleep surface throughout the night.
- The bottom layer of the Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Guilford mattress is 5″ of OptiCore™ support foam. This firmer support layer gives the mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far.
Logan & Cove Mattress Layers
The Logan & Cove mattress is made up of five layers:
- Cover fill: The lightweight fill resting immediately beneath the cover is soft to the touch, antimicrobial, heat-regulating, and breathable.
- First layer: 0.75 inches of high-density cooling gel foam. The first of two consecutive cooling layers is primarily designed to offer immediate cushioning and a hint of body contouring.
- Second layer: 1 inch of cooling gel memory foam. This responsive material helps with cushioning and heat regulation around the sleeping surface.
- Third layer: 1 inch of soy-infused bio foam. This layer provides body contouring and pressure-point relief in the neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees.
- Fourth layer: 2 inches of soy-infused eco foam. This thicker layer of foam is the main transition layer between the cover and the bottom support layer, helping to balance both the cushioning and supportive properties of the mattress. It also further establishes the overall body contouring and pressure-relieving properties.
- Fifth layer: 8 inches of individually pocketed coils. The pocketed coils are made from multi-tempered recycled steel. They provide robust support and motion isolation across the entire sleep surface. In the central third of the bed (under the hips), Logan & Cove uses a thicker gauge of steel in order to prevent the hips from sinking down too far. This arrangement helps to promote spinal alignment and reduce pressure points. Logan & Cove has one of the thickest centre thirds of any coil-based mattress.
Of note: The full perimeter of the mattress is encased with 4 inches of rigid support foam to allow you to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed. Polyfiber layers above and below the pocketed coils make up the remaining 0.75 inches of Logan & Cove’s 14-inch vertical profile.
Sealy Posturepedic vs Logan & Cove Mattress Cover
Sealy Posturepedic

Logan & Cove

Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Cover
The Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Guilford’s pillow-top cover is quilted and button tufted to emphasized its soft surface. The white polyester fabric is further decorated in a quatrefoil pattern throughout, a theme that continues down along the full border of the side walls. Two other highlights of this two-tone exterior are the decorative piping along the outer edges and two fabric handles on either side of the mattress, making it easier to move or rotate the piece. All in all, the cover has an elegant look which matches the theme of this stylish, luxury line.
According to the product tag, the mattress cover is a blend of fabrics: 100% polyester for the sleep surface, and a mix of 69% cotton and 31% polypropylene for the mattress border.
The pillow-top cover is neither removable nor machine washable. Therefore, the only option for cleaning this mattress is spot cleaning.
Logan & Cove Mattress Cover
Logan & Cove's impressive quilting is full of intricate details, ones normally reserved for higher price segments. The design uses diamond-tufting, accent stitching, glossy fabrics, and other elegant touches to make a mattress you can't help but want to run your hands across.
To keep you cool and comfortable through the night, the white quilting is heavily infused with Tencel®. Tencel is widely known for its breathability and moisture-wicking qualities. Altogether, this level of luxury styling is all but unheard of in the mattress-in-a-box category, and especially at Logan & Cove's pricepoint.Sealy Posturepedic vs Logan & Cove: Environmental Sustainability
