Product Details: Juno Hybrid

Juno Hybrid is a 10" hybrid mattress that combines multiple foam comfort layers with a zoned pocketed coil support core and reinforced perimeter foam for edge support. It has cooling features like a layer of gel-infused foam and an optional Cool+ cover upgrade. All Juno mattresses are made in Canada.

A queen-size Juno Hybrid is priced at $599. Purchases include free shipping and return pickup for most Canadian addresses, as well as a free bedding bundle with a cotton sheet set, pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector. Juno mattresses come with a 120-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty—much longer than the industry-average 100-night trial and 10-year warranty for most mattresses.

Product Details: IKEA VALEVAG

IKEA VALEVAG is a hybrid mattress that has an edge-to-edge layer of pocket coils, which are zoned for extra support. Unlike the Juno Hybrid, IKEA VALEVAG doesn't have encasement foam along the mattress edges. The breathable coil layer is also the mattress's only cooling feature.

A queen-size VALEVAG is priced at $449 and is covered by IKEA's standard 10-year warranty. The mattress comes with a 90-night sleep trial. This is shorter than the industry average of 100 nights. During the sleep trial, customers can exchange the mattress for another or receive store credit. Cash refunds are not available.

Mattress Construction

Both Juno Hybrid and IKEA VALEVAG are hybrid mattresses with layers of foam and pocket coils, although the Juno Hybrid has 4 layers and VALEVAG has 3. The mattresses have a similar height, with the Juno Hybrid being 10" tall and the IKEA VALEVAG measuring 9.5".

Juno Hybrid

Side view of the internal layers of the Juno Hybrid mattress

  • 1st Layer: 2" of full-body cooling gel foam that provides cushioning and helps keep temperatures comfortable.
  • 2nd Layer: 1" of transition foam that adds comfort and separates the top layer from the coils for better pressure relief.
  • 3rd Layer: 6" of individually pocketed coils with zoned support through the middle third, for extra support under your back and hips. This layer also includes reinforced foam around the perimeter for stronger edge support.
  • 4th Layer: 1" of base foam that supports the coil system and makes the entire mattress secure.

The Juno Hybrid uses a knit mattress cover patterned with grey and white striping and a berry-coloured accent, drawing inspiration from traditional Canadian wool socks. The cover is not removable or machine washable, so cleaning should be limited to spot treatment as needed. An optional Cool+ cover upgrade is available for $79. This uses the same base fabric as the standard cover but incorporates cooling yarn to help with temperature regulation.

IKEA VALEVAG

Side angle photo showing the internal layers of the Ikea Valevag mattress

  • 1st Layer: A 1.5" memory foam comfort layer offers cushioning and pressure relief. Designed to prevent sleepers from feeling the coils below, and has a foam density of 1.5 lb/ft³.
  • 2nd Layer: A 6.5" pocketed coil transition layer provides the mattress with most of its structure and support. The individually wrapped coils also allow for some airflow within the mattress.
  • 3rd Layer: A 0.25" foam support layer provides foundation beneath the coils, adding stability and helping insulate the mattress from the bedframe.

The IKEA VALEVAG mattress is finished with a minimalist quilted cover made from a soft knit fabric. The cover is offered in white or light blue, depending on the selected firmness option. Integrated side handles are included to make lifting, repositioning, or rotating the mattress easier.

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, both mattresses earned good edge support scores. IKEA VALEVAG received a great score of 8.3/10, while Juno Hybrid's score was even higher: 9.3/10. Edge support keeps your body on the mattress when you sit on the edge, giving you more usable space. Both mattresses also have a medium-firm feel. This is generally considered suitable for all sleep positions.

Where Juno Hybrid differs:

  • Juno Hybrid's motion isolation score was average at 5.3/10. Although this is lower than IKEA VALEVAG's score, the mattress will still provide fairly good motion isolation.
  • A bouncier mattress lets you change sleep positions easily. The Juno Hybrid has mid-level bounce with a score of 6.2/10.
  • The Juno Hybrid scored significantly higher for cooling at 4.7/10. This is because of its gel foam, breathable pocket coils, and open-cell foam, as well as the optional Cool+ cover.

Where IKEA VALEVAG differs:

  • For motion isolation, the IKEA VALEVAG earned a higher score of 7.4/10. If you share the bed with a partner, you're less likely to feel them tossing and turning at night.
  • A less bouncy mattress can help prevent you from noticing movement elsewhere on the bed. The IKEA VALEVAG received a low bounce score of 2.7/10.
  • The IKEA VALEVAG only comes with one cooling feature: the breathable layer of pocket coils. It doesn't have any other active cooling features to provide temperature control.

Juno ships mattresses via FedEx to most parts of Canada. Orders arrive in 2–10 business days. Juno provides the longer sleep trial of the two brands at 120 nights, with free return pickup and a full refund. Mattresses also come with a longer-than-average 15-year warranty.

IKEA

IKEA ships mattresses across most parts of Canada using FedEx. Delivery starts at $39 for contactless service or $59 for in-home delivery, with the final cost and the estimated delivery time depending on your location.

IKEA offers a 90-night sleep trial and an industry-standard 10-year warranty. Returns must be completed in-store, so you will need to bring back the mattress yourself or arrange return pickup. IKEA issues store credit or allows an exchange, but the company doesn't provide a cash refund.

Company Background

Third-party review sites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot collect and publish customer feedback about companies and their products, and aren't controlled by the companies being reviewed. They offer a snapshot of overall customer satisfaction and highlight common issues shoppers might face. Checking ratings on sites like these can be a useful way for customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.

IKEA has below-average ratings on BBB and Trustpilot, including customer review scores. In comparison, Juno's parent company GoodMorning has higher ratings on BBB and Trustpilot.
