Mattress Construction

Both the Juno Hybrid and Emma Original mattresses are designed with a 4-layer hybrid structure that includes layers of foam and individually pocketed coils.

Juno Hybrid

Side view of the internal layers of the Juno Hybrid mattress

  • 1st Layer: 2" of full-body cooling gel foam that provides cushioning and helps keep temperatures comfortable.
  • 2nd Layer: 1" of transition foam that adds comfort and separates the top layer from the coils for better pressure relief.
  • 3rd Layer: 6" of individually pocketed coils with zoned support through the middle third, for extra support under your back and hips. This layer also includes reinforced foam around the perimeter for stronger edge support.
  • 4th Layer: 1" of base foam that supports the coil system and makes the entire mattress secure.

The Juno Hybrid mattress cover is visually inspired by classic Canadian wool socks, with grey, white, and a bold berry-coloured stripe at one end. The cover isn't removable or machine washable, so it's best to spot-clean only. You can upgrade to the Cool+ cover for an extra $79. It's the same fabric as the standard Juno cover, but it's infused with cooling yarn to help keep temperatures comfortable at night.

Emma Original

Side view photo of the Emma Original hybrid mattress's internal layers

  • 1st Layer: 0.5" of breathable Airgocell® foam that uses open-cell technology to promote airflow and wick away moisture for a cooler, drier sleep.
  • 2nd Layer: A 0.5" layer of MemoryAdapt foam that contours to the body's shape, evenly distributing weight across the mattress for pressure relief.
  • 3rd Layer: 0.5" of dense SupportBase foam that provides firmness and stability, helping sleepers shift positions more easily.
  • 4th Layer: A 7-zone system of 8" pocket coils that runs edge-to-edge, offering targeted support, added bounce, and strong reinforcement around the perimeter of the mattress.

The Emma Original mattress has a simple, modern cover in white and grey. It uses darker fabric on the sides to provide contrast, and the Emma logo lives at the foot of the mattress. This cover is 100% polyester and is designed for low maintenance. The top panel can be removed using the zipper and is machine washable.

2.4 / 10

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, both mattresses earned strong edge support scores. Emma Original earned a great score of 8.5/10, but Juno Hybrid performed even better at 9.3/10. Edge support keeps you feeling sturdy when you sit on the edge of the bed, plus gives you more usable space on your mattress. Both mattresses also have mid-level bounce, so you can change positions easily while you sleep.

Where Juno Hybrid differs:

  • Juno Hybrid has a medium-firm feel with a firmness score of 6.9/10. This level of firmness will work for most sleep styles, including side, back, and stomach sleepers.
  • In testing, Juno Hybrid's motion isolation score was average at 5.3/10. This is lower than Emma Original's score but will still provide fairly good motion isolation if you share the bed.
  • Juno Hybrid also shines when it comes to cooling. It comes with cooling gel foam, breathable pocket coils, and open-cell foam. The optional Cool+ cover provides even more temperature control.

Where Emma Original differs:

  • Emma Original has a firm feel with a slightly higher firmness score of 7.0/10. A firm feel can be comfortable for back and stomach sleepers but is not well suited for side sleepers.
  • Cooling is one area where Emma Original falls short compared to Juno Hybrid. Emma Original comes with a breathable cover, open-cell foam, and breathable coils, but it doesn't have any other active cooling features.

Juno

Juno uses FedEx to deliver their mattresses to your door throughout most parts of Canada, usually in 2–10 business days. Of the two brands, Juno has a longer sleep trial at 120 nights, as well as a longer-than-average 15-year warranty.

The company offers free return pickup during the sleep trial and will issue you a full refund if you don't love it. To help avoid waste and give back to those in need, Juno will also donate returned mattresses to local charities.

Emma

Emma provides free shipping across most of Canada, and your order should arrive in 3–7 business days. Emma includes an industry-standard 10-year limited warranty and a 100-night sleep trial to try the mattress at home. The company offers free returns and a full refund during the trial period, but you'll need to wrap the mattress in its original plastic for pickup.

Company Background

Third-party review sites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot collect and publish customer feedback about companies and their products, and aren't controlled by the companies being reviewed. They offer a snapshot of overall customer satisfaction and highlight common issues shoppers might face. Checking ratings on sites like these can be a useful way for customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.

Emma Sleep has lower ratings on BBB, including customer review scores, and the brand is only rated "Average" on Trustpilot. In comparison, Juno has a higher "Excellent" rating on Trustpilot. Its parent company, GoodMorning, has a higher BBB rating, too.
