The Novosbed is a luxury memory foam mattress sold online by GoodMorning.com. A queen size retails for $1,399 CAD and includes a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and free returns. That said, it’s now only available for sale in the United States. The mattress comes in three firmness options and features high-density foam, as well as a washable cooling cover with Tencel™ fibres.

If you’re shopping for a memory foam mattress, you might have come across options like Novosbed and Octave. But did you know that they’re two evolutions of the same brand? To compare the change, we compared Octave Vista vs Novosbed Medium, and Octave came out on top. 

Novosbed launched in 2009 and was one of the first bed-in-a-box brands in Canada. It introduced the 120-night sleep trial and earned a reputation for quality and comfort. In 2023, Novosbed evolved into Octave under the GoodMorning.com brand in Canada. The Novosbed mattress is available in three firmness options: Soft, Medium, and Firm, to suit different sleep preferences. Its medium-firm feel works well for a variety of sleep positions, including side, back, and stomach.

Both Octave Vista and Novosbed Medium use a 3-layer foam construction designed to offer a balance of comfort, support, and breathability. 

Octave Vista

• 1st Layer: 2″ of CopperGel™ memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material, a special temperature-regulating technology that pulls away extra heat when it's too hot and returns it when it's too cold. This layer contours around your body to provide pressure-point relief. It is also infused with antimicrobial copper, which helps promote a clean, fresh sleep surface while dissipating heat.
• 2nd Layer: 2″ of premium Elastex® foam, which is designed to cushion your body against the support layer while supplying a bit of responsive bounce for comfort and mobility.
• 3rd Layer: 8" of multi-zoned support foam with air channels, which provides heat regulation while also promoting proper spinal alignment.

The Octave Vista has a modern, two-tone look with navy blue sidewalls and a white top panel. Of the three Octave models, it features the lightest blue wave pattern stitched into the surface. The top cover is woven with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres that help wick away moisture while you sleep. It's soft, cool to the touch, and fully removable thanks to a 360-degree zipper. You can unzip it and toss it in the wash for easy cleaning.

Novosbed

• 1st Layer: 1″ of premium airflow foam, designed to promote airflow at the surface and prevent heat buildup. This layer contours gently to the body to provide pressure-point relief and comfort.
• 2nd Layer: 2″ of high-density gel memory foam, which adds durability and support to the mattress, while also enhancing motion isolation.
• 3rd Layer: 7″ of premium support foam, forming a sturdy foundation for the mattress.

Novosbed's top cover is machine-washable and made from polyester woven with Tencel™, a material designed to help dissipate heat. The white top panel features a floral-style embossed pattern and attaches to the heather-grey sidewalls using a navy blue 360-degree zipper. As the predecessor to the Octave mattress, the Novosbed's overall design clearly influenced the look and feel of Octave's more modern aesthetic.

Mattress Performance

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, Octave and Novosbed fell into close, but separate firmness categories. Octave Vista was categorized as a medium-firm mattress, which should work well for most sleep styles, whether you sleep on your back, stomach, or side. Novosbed, on the other hand, has more of a medium feel, which is generally best for back and side sleepers.

Both mattresses also earned solid scores for motion isolation, although Octave scored a little higher than Novosbed. 

Where Octave Vista Differs:

• Vista had a very good edge support score of 7.5/10, which is much higher than Novosbed's score.
• Octave Vista also incorporates more cooling features than Novosbed, earning it a score of 8.0/10 for its cooling features. It earned points for its CopperGel™ memory foam and PolarMAX® phase-change material, which help pull heat away while you sleep. The moisture-wicking CoolTouch™ cover also adds to its temperature-regulating design, which is great if you tend to sleep hot.

Where Novosbed Differs:

• Even though both mattresses had below-average bounce scores, Novosbed received a lower bounce score than Octave at 2.3/10. This lower responsiveness helps reduce motion transfer, which can be useful if you share your bed or enjoy more contouring and "hug" while you sleep.

Octave Vista ships out through FedEx and offers free delivery to most places in Canada, usually taking around 3–10 business days from Ontario or Alberta. Just keep in mind that remote areas might have extra fees. You also get a 365-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty, which gives you plenty of time to test it out at home.
