The Bloom Air is a 9.5" combination foam mattress that comes in one firmness option. It uses different foam types, densities, and firmness levels for a design that offers a firm feel and some cooling capabilities. The foam layers are all CertiPUR-US® certified.

Mattress Layers

The Bloom Air mattress contains 3 layers of foam. Like many of the memory foam mattresses on the market today, each layer of foam in the Bloom Air mattress works with the others to provide an overall level of comfort and support.

  • 1st Layer: 2" of cooling gel memory foam that quickly conforms to the body's shape, reducing motion transfer while cradling shoulders and hips.
  • 2nd Layer: 0.5" of polyurethane foam that provides an overall balance between the cushy top layer and the thicker base layer.
  • 3rd Layer: 7" of support base foam with air channels cut along the width to promote air circulation, as well as bamboo charcoal to help prevent the gradual buildup of mattress odours.

Mattress Cover

The Bloom Air mattress has a unique cover design with neutral pastel colours (turquoise, soft grey, and white). The turquoise accents include the zipper along the upper perimeter, which connects the washable top cover to the base fabric, and the embroidered Bloom logo at the foot of the mattress.

The white top cover is made of organic cotton and is machine washable. It can be unzipped from the base fabric, put in the washing machine on low heat, and air dried after washing.

Mattress Testing

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Bloom Air scored 7.0/10 for firmness. This places the mattress in the "firm" category, although Sleep Country's website product page describes it as "medium."

A firm mattress is usually best for those who sleep on their backs or stomachs, or anyone with a heavier body type. Side sleepers might want to consider a medium-firm mattress like the Douglas Original instead.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress sinks under applied weight. The lower the score out of 10, the softer the mattress.

7.0

/10

Edge Support

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Bloom Air scored 8.0/10 for edge support. This is a great score for a foam mattress. Sleepers can sleep near or sit on the edge of the bed without any trouble.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress edge sinks under applied weight. A mattress with average to good edge support will score 5/10 or higher.

8.0

/10

Cooling

Our mattress reviewers awarded the Bloom Air a cooling feature score of 4.2/10. This score is calculated based on the features below:

  1. Copper-infused organic cotton mattress cover
  2. Heat-wicking cooling gel foam in the comfort layer
  3. Aerated foam for air circulation in the support layer
  4. Charcoal infusion dissipates heat in the support layer

If cooling features are important to you, we recommend the Douglas Original with its similar score of 5.0/10, at a lower price point of $799 for a queen.

Our Rating
?

Determined by entering a mattress's cooling features into our scoring algorithm. The more effective cooling features that are present, the higher the score out of 10.

4.2

/10

Motion Isolation

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Bloom Air scored 6.6/10 for motion isolation. This is a good score for a foam mattress. You might feel larger movements from a partner, but smaller movements shouldn't be noticed.

If you share your bed or are a light sleeper, you might like a mattress like Douglas Original, which earned a higher score of 8.3/10 for motion isolation.

Our Rating
?

Determined by measuring a medicine ball's impact on the mattress. Average to good motion isolation would be 5/10 or higher.

6.6

/10

Bounce

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Bloom Air scored 3.6/10 for bounce. This is below average for a foam mattress, which means the sleep surface is more consistent and less bouncy.

Our Rating
?

Determined by dropping a medicine ball onto the mattress. The higher the first bounce, the higher the score out of 10.

Delivery & Other Policies

When you order a Bloom Air mattress from Sleep Country Canada, it'll show up at your door neatly packed in a box. Delivery usually takes 3–10 business days, and shipping is free if your order is over $75. Just a heads-up, though: if you're in Newfoundland and Labrador or one of the Canadian Territories, there's a shipping surcharge.

Sleep Country includes a 10-year limited warranty with your Bloom Air mattress, which covers manufacturing defects. This is standard in the industry.

You also get a 100-night sleep trial to decide if it's the right fit for you. If you return the mattress during the trial, you'll need to bring it back to a Sleep Country store yourself, even if you bought it online. The company doesn't do mattress pick-ups for returns, and they don't issue refunds. Instead, you'll get in-store credit (minus a $65 exchange fee) to use toward another mattress. If your next pick is more expensive, you'll cover the difference in price.

Customer Reviews & Feedback

Third-party review sites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot collect and publish customer feedback about companies and their products, and aren't controlled by the companies being reviewed. They offer a snapshot of overall customer satisfaction and highlight common issues shoppers might face. Checking ratings on sites like these can be a useful way for customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.

While Bloom doesn't have its own profile on the BBB, its parent company, Sleep Country Canada, is listed there with a rating of "A+" (unaccredited). That said, customer reviews on the BBB site average just 1.32 out of 5 stars. On Trustpilot, the company has a "Poor" rating with 1.8 out of 5 stars.
