Meet the Mattress

Priced at $3,699 for a queen-size, Dormeo One certainly sets high expectations. Designed as a medium-firm foam mattress, it uses Dormeo’s proprietary Octaspring® technology, an eight-sided foam spring that promotes excellent airflow and support.

While the technology is impressive, it’s natural for consumers to wonder if they are making the best investment, particularly when other alternatives offer comfort and support without breaking the bank.

The Dormeo One mattress stands 11" tall and used to come in two firmness levels: medium and firm. We bought the medium version for this review.

Dormeo also comes in two upgraded models: Dormeo Two and Dormeo Three. Each adds an extra layer of Octasprings for a more cushioned feel. As you upgrade, the height and price of the mattress also increase.

Mattress Layers

  • 1st Layer: 1″ of Dormeo's recovery foam. This polyurethane memory foam contours to the shape of your body as you lie on the mattress.
  • 2nd Layer: 3″ of foam, made of 2" Octasprings sandwiched between 0.5″ foam sheets. These "springs" are designed to move in different directions to conform to your body and provide pressure-point relief.
  • 3rd Layer: 7″ of dense polyurethane support foam that maintains the mattress's structure and support, ensuring you won't sink too far down.

Mattress Cover

The Dormeo One has a simple, modern design with a white top, grey sides, and orange piping around the edges. The stitched logo on the front adds a branded touch. The outer fabric is made up of polyester, viscose, and spandex, along with phase-change material and TENCEL™, which gives it a cool-to-the-touch feel. This is a plus if you're someone who tends to sleep warm.

The cover does include a zipper, but Dormeo advises against removing it since it's not machine washable. If you're the type who prefers low-maintenance cleaning, it's worth noting that the cover is spot-clean only.

Mattress Testing

/10

Made in

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Dormeo One scored 6.5/10 for firmness based on its deflection of 2.3″ under pressure. This places it in the medium-firm range, offering a balance of support and comfort.

It's worth noting that this review is based on the previous medium version of the Dormeo One, which was available when we purchased. The current model is only offered in a firm feel, so your experience with a more recent version of Dormeo One may be slightly different.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress sinks under applied weight. The lower the score out of 10, the softer the mattress.

6.5

/10

Edge Support

Dormeo One scored 9.3/10 for edge support, based on its 2.8" deflection. This is outstanding for a foam mattress. Sleepers can sleep near or sit on the edge of the bed without any trouble.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress edge sinks under applied weight. A mattress with average to good edge support will score 5/10 or higher.

9.3

/10

Cooling Features

Our mattress reviewers awarded the Dormeo One a cooling feature score of 3.7/10. This score is calculated based on features like:

  1. TENCEL™ fibres in the cover, which help to wick away moisture
  2. Phase-changing material incorporated into the mattress cover to balance temperatures
  3. Octaspring technology, which allows for more airflow

If cooling is a priority for you, but you're not looking to spend a lot, the Douglas Summit includes several features designed to promote a cooler sleep surface, like a moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover with cooling nanofibres, gel foam infused with phase-change material, and a breathable transition layer that helps with airflow. These materials work together to manage heat and support a more comfortable night's sleep, giving the Douglas Summit a cooling feature score of 7.6/10.

Our Rating
?

Determined by entering a mattress's cooling features into our scoring algorithm. The more effective cooling features that are present, the higher the score out of 10.

3.7

/10

Motion Isolation

Dormeo One scored 7.2/10 for motion isolation. This is a good score for a foam mattress. You might feel larger movements from a partner, but smaller movements shouldn't be noticed.

Want a mattress with even more motion isolation? You might want to take a look at the Douglas Summit, which earned a motion isolation score of 8.8/10. Douglas is a great option if you're a light sleeper or share your bed.

Our Rating
?

Determined by measuring a medicine ball's impact on the mattress. Average to good motion isolation would be 5/10 or higher.

7.2

/10

Bounce

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Dormeo One scored 5.5/10 for bounce. This is just above average for a foam mattress, which means the sleep surface is a balance between contouring and bouncy.

If you're looking for a mattress with minimal bounce, the Douglas Summit could be a better fit. In third-party engineer testing, it scored 3.0/10 for bounce, which is lower than average. A low bounce score often means less motion travels across the surface when someone else moves.

Our Rating
?

Determined by dropping a medicine ball onto the mattress. The higher the first bounce, the higher the score out of 10.

Delivery & Other Policies

Dormeo ships the Dormeo One mattress straight from its warehouse in Toronto. Delivery to your place usually takes 3–5 business days. The mattress ships flat and fully expanded, not rolled or compressed like many modern mattress brands, and includes free white-glove delivery to most addresses in Canada. That means Dormeo's team will bring the mattress to your room and set it up for you.

It's worth noting that Dormeo doesn't deliver to Yukon, Northwest Territories, or Nunavut. And if you need to make a change to your shipping address after placing your order, there's a $20 fee. You can also add shipping protection at checkout for $9.95. If something goes wrong during transit, like damage or loss, Dormeo will replace the item, but the protection fee isn't refundable.

The Dormeo One mattress includes a 10-year limited warranty that covers defects in materials or workmanship. The cover has a separate 1-year warranty. Normal wear and tear, changes in firmness, or damage from improper use aren't covered, so Dormeo recommends always using a waterproof mattress protector with your bed.

You also get a 100-night sleep trial to test the mattress out at home. Dormeo asks that you give it at least 30 nights before deciding to return it. If it's still not the right fit, they'll walk you through a donation or recycling process. Unopened items can be returned with a free shipping label. Refunds are issued to the original payment method, usually within 5–7 business days. Only one return or exchange is allowed per customer or order. Amazon purchases can't be returned or exchanged.

If you're looking for a longer sleep trial or a more generous warranty, consider a brand like Douglas. It comes with a 365-night trial and a 20-year warranty, which is longer than what Dormeo offers, and for a lower price.

Dormeo was founded in 1998 under the name ADO Limited by Nino Tomšič. The company produced its first foam mattress in Italy in 2002 and expanded into the UK in 2009. A few years later, it introduced Octaspring®—a patented foam spring technology that now features prominently across its product line. In 2023, Dormeo and its related brands were acquired by Dormeo AG, a newly incorporated company.

Today, Dormeo products are available in several markets, including Canada, where the brand focuses on foam-based sleep technology. The company continues to promote Octaspring® as a key differentiator in its mattress designs.

Should You Buy Dormeo One?

Dormeo One

Queen $3,699

The Dormeo One could be a good fit if you're looking for a foam mattress with zoned support and a few other interesting features. Dormeo One has good motion isolation plus outstanding edge support, although it's more expensive than some other similar Canadian-made mattresses. You might like Dormeo if you want:

  • Unique Octaspring® foam coils for support and airflowCooling cover with phase-change material, although it's not machine washable
  • Moderate bounce for a stable but responsive surface

That said, if you're looking for a mattress with strong cooling features, good pressure-point relief, a longer trial period, and a 20-year warranty, you might want to consider the Douglas Summit. It offers great motion isolation, a machine-washable cooling cover, and a 365-night trial, all at a more approachable price point of $1,299 for a queen size.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Dormeo mattress last?

Dormeo one has a warranty period of 10 years. Experts generally say a good mattress lasts about 7–10 years, but this can vary based on the materials and how often you use it.

There's no hard-and-fast rule, but if you start noticing sagging, lumps, or less comfort and support, it's probably time to think about replacing it. Taking care of your mattress with regular maintenance can help it last longer.

Where are Dormeo mattresses made?

According to the live chat function on the Dormeo Canada website, the company uses a global sourcing strategy and manufactures its mattresses in Canada and Europe, with orders shipping from its facility in Mississauga. However, the Dormeo One mattress we purchased and tested in 2024 had a foam core made in Vietnam and a cover made in China, as listed on the law label.

Where can I buy a Dormeo mattress?

Dormeo is available for purchase from the Dormeo Canada website or retailers like Amazon. Dormeo used to be sold exclusively at Sleep Country, where you could try the mattresses in person, but now they can only be bought online.

What Dormeo mattress alternatives should I consider?

We recommend Douglas Summit if you're after a Canadian-made mattress with strong cooling features and good pressure point relief. At $1,299 for a queen, this Canadian-made foam mattress includes a moisture-wicking, and a machine-washable cover.

It also has phase-change material and cooling gel foam, features are designed to help manage heat and keep the sleep surface comfortable across all seasons. It also comes with a free bedding bundle, a 20-year warranty, and a 365-night sleep trial with full refunds, free returns, and free pickups.
