Fleep contains 4 layers of foam and measures 10" tall. The Fleep mattress uses multiple foam layers that work together to balance comfort and support. By flipping the mattress, you can switch to a different firmness level. All foam layers used in the mattress are CertiPUR-US® certified.

The layers listed below presume that the "top" layer is the Firm side of the mattress. Flipping the mattress reverses the order to create the firmness comfort level.

Mattress Layers

  • 1st Layer: 2″ perforated gel-infused memory foam that provides contouring comfort with cooling benefits on the firmer side.
  • 2nd Layer: 4″ of dense base foam. Provides overall support to the mattress under both the Firm and Soft side without being too firm.
  • 3rd Layer: 2″ therapeutic foam that limits sinkage and offers sturdy comfort.
  • 4th Layer: 2" of aerated instant response foam designed to promote comfort and breathability. This can help your body feel supported while reducing heat buildup during the night.

Mattress Cover

The Fleep mattress features a simple cover divided by a bright yellow zipper, with embossed "+" and "–" symbols to indicate the firm and soft sides. The cover is removable for spot cleaning but not machine washable, so using a mattress protector is recommended to help keep it clean.

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Fleep mattress scored 7.6/10 for firmness on the firm side and 5.2/10 on the softer side, which is accurate to the advertised firmness levels on either side. This dual-comfort design gives sleepers the option to switch between a firmer, more supportive feel or a softer, contouring experience, depending on their preference or changing sleep needs.

A medium-firm mattress is often ideal for various types of sleepers, as it provides a balance of support and plush, pressure-relieving comfort. You can check out competitor mattress Douglas Original, which scores 6.7/10 for firmness, putting it in the medium-firm category.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress sinks under applied weight. The lower the score out of 10, the softer the mattress.

Edge Support

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Fleep mattress scored 5.7/10 for edge support on the firm side and 4.4/10 on the softer side. These results are considered good and below-average, respectively.

On the firm side, you can sit or sleep near the edge without feeling like you'll slide off; However, you may experience limited edge support on the softer side of the mattress. This is not ideal for those who like to sit on the edge of the bed and require stability and support.

If you want a mattress with higher and more consistent edge support, you might want to consider the Douglas Original, which earned a very good edge support score of 7.8/10.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress edge sinks under applied weight. A mattress with average to good edge support will score 5/10 or higher.

Cooling Features

When it comes to sleeping cool at night, you'll want to look for features that help add airflow into the mattress and move hot air away from your body. Our reviewers gave Fleep a cooling features score of 3.2/10. Fleep incorporates cooling features like:

  1. Thermo°Cool® spandex Cover, which provides moisture-wicking properties
  2. Gel-infused memory foam, which can help transfer heat away from your body
  3. Perforations in the bottom foam layer, which promote airflow

If cooling is a priority for you, but you're not looking to spend a lot, the Douglas Original offers a more affordable option. It's built with features aimed at keeping you cool, including a moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover with cooling nanofibres, gel foam infused with phase-change material, and a breathable transition layer to help with airflow.

In third-party testing, it earned a cooling score of 5.0/10. This is a solid result, especially considering the price difference: $799 for a queen compared to $915 for the Fleep.

Our Rating
?

Determined by entering a mattress's cooling features into our scoring algorithm. The more effective cooling features that are present, the higher the score out of 10.

/10

Motion Isolation

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Fleep mattress scored 6.9/10 for motion isolation on both sides. This is a good score for a foam mattress. You might feel larger movements from a partner, but smaller movements shouldn't be noticed.

If less motion transfer on a mattress is important to you, you may prefer a mattress like Douglas Original, which has a great motion isolation score of 8.3/10. This means that most movements on the mattress from the other side of your partner, kids or pets won't be felt on your side, creating a less disruptive sleep experience.

Our Rating
?

Determined by measuring a medicine ball's impact on the mattress. Average to good motion isolation would be 5/10 or higher.

6.9

/10

Bounce

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Fleep mattress scored 5.5/10 for bounce on the firm side, which is about average for a foam mattress, and 3.2/10 on the soft side, which is below-average for a foam mattress. Bounce is all about how quickly the mattress returns into shape after you apply pressure to it. If a mattress has a lot of bounce, it's easier to switch positions. On the other hand, one with less bounce can help keep movements from disturbing your partner.

Our Rating
?

Determined by dropping a medicine ball onto the mattress. The higher the first bounce, the higher the score out of 10.

Company Overview

Fleep launched in Canada in 2014 with a reversible mattress offering two firmness options in one. The company was privately owned and headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was founded by Jason Monfette and David Gélinas, long-time friends and business partners who combined their entrepreneurial skills to create Fleep.

Fleep did not maintain a Better Business Bureau profile. Its mattresses were sold online across Canada and the United States and included a 111-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty.

Note: As of 2024 Fleep's website appears to be disabled and the company is no longer in business.

Customer Reviews & Feedback

Third-party review sites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot collect and publish customer feedback about companies and their products, and aren't controlled by the companies being reviewed. They offer a snapshot of overall customer satisfaction and highlight common issues shoppers might face. Checking ratings on sites like these can be a useful way for customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.

At the time of writing, Fleep doesn't appear to have an active profile on either the BBB or Trustpilot. That makes it harder to get a clear sense of what customers think about the mattress company.
