The Layla mattress uses a few different foams to make up its flippable construction. Copper-infused memory foam helps with temperature control, while a dense support core offers firmness and stability. All foams are CertiPUR-US® certified.

Mattress Layers

The Layla Memory Foam mattress is 10.5" tall and built with 4 foam layers. Its flippable design means you can choose between a soft side and a firm side, but both sides performed very similarly in third-party testing (commissioned by us).

  • 1st Layer: 1.5″ of copper-infused memory foam on the soft side. This comfort layer is designed to contour closely to your body, while the copper gel helps draw heat away.
  • 2nd Layer: 2.5″ of convoluted transition foam. This layer is cut with air channels to improve breathability and provide a buffer between the softer top layer and the dense support base.
  • 3rd Layer: 5.5″ of high-density support foam. This core layer gives the mattress most of its structure and helps reduce deep sinkage.
  • 4th Layer: 1″ of copper-infused memory foam on the firm side. When flipped, this acts as the comfort layer. On the soft setting, it sits at the bottom, adding durability and insulation.

Mattress Cover

The Layla memory foam mattress comes with a two-tone cover made from a blend of polyester, rayon, viscose, and polylycra. The design is split into light and dark halves to indicate the soft and firm sides. It's also removable and machine washable, making it easier to keep clean.

Mattress Testing

/10

Made in

Firmness

The Layla memory foam mattress scored 5.3/10 on the firm side and 5.5/10 on the soft side. Despite being marketed as different firmness levels, both sides performed very similarly and landed in the medium to medium-firm range. This level of firmness can work for many sleepers, especially side and back sleepers. But the soft side may not offer enough support for stomach sleepers or anyone with a heavier body type.

In comparison, the Douglas Original scored 6.7/10 for firmness in third-party testing. That lands it in the medium-firm range, which is widely considered the most versatile comfort level. Douglas delivers a clear firmness profile that works well for side, back, and stomach sleepers alike.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress sinks under applied weight. The lower the score out of 10, the softer the mattress.

5.3

/10

Edge Support

Both sides of the Layla earned a 6.5/10 score for edge support, which is above average for a foam mattress. This allows you to sit or sleep near the edge without significant sagging.

The Douglas Original goes a step further, scoring 7.8/10 for edge support in third-party testing. This higher score means less sinking when sitting on the edge of the bed or sleeping closer to the sides.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress edge sinks under applied weight. A mattress with average to good edge support will score 5/10 or higher.

6.5

/10

Cooling Features

The Layla memory foam mattress earned a cooling score of 4.1/10. It earned points for features like its:

  1. Organic cotton mattress cover
  2. Copper-infused foam in the top and bottom layers
  3. Convoluted foam for air circulation in the transition layer

If sleeping cool is important to you but you don't want to break the bank, we recommend the Douglas Original. It earned a slightly higher cooling feature score of 5.0/10, at a lower price point of $799 for a queen.

Our Rating
?

Determined by entering a mattress's cooling features into our scoring algorithm. The more effective cooling features that are present, the higher the score out of 10.

4.1

/10

Motion Isolation

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the Layla memory foam mattress earned scores of 8.2/10 (firm side) and 8.4/10 (soft side). These are great motion isolation scores, which means movements from a partner probably won't disturb your sleep.

Our Rating
?

Determined by measuring a medicine ball's impact on the mattress. Average to good motion isolation would be 5/10 or higher.

8.2

/10

Bounce

The mattress earned scores of 3.7/10 (firm side) and 3.3/10 (soft side) for bounce. These are fairly low scores, which is common for memory foam. You may feel more contouring when lying down and less responsiveness when moving.

Our Rating
?

Determined by dropping a medicine ball onto the mattress. The higher the first bounce, the higher the score out of 10.

Should You Buy the Layla Mattress?

Layla Memory Foam (Firm)

The Layla Memory Foam is one of the higher-priced all-foam mattresses online. Although it's marketed as flippable, testing shows both sides feel similar and fall near the medium range. Layla has good motion isolation, but its edge support is average compared to competitors. You might like the Layla Memory Foam if you want:

  • The option to flip between two firmness levels
  • Copper-infused foam for cooler sleep
  • A lifetime warranty
  • A removable, washable cover

For a mattress with strong overall performance, you might want to consider the Douglas Original instead. It costs $799 CAD for a queen, comes with a medium-firm feel that suits all sleep styles, and outperforms the Layla memory foam mattress in edge support and cooling. Douglas also includes free shipping, free returns, a 365-night trial, and a 20-year warranty, plus a free bedding bundle. Plus, it's made in Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Layla mattresses good?

The Layla memory foam mattress performs well in areas like motion isolation and edge support. But at $1,542 CAD (plus $150 USD shipping to Canada), it lacks some of the extras you'd expect at that price, like free returns or a bedding bundle. In contrast, the Douglas Original costs just $799 CAD and includes a 365-night sleep trial, free shipping and returns, a 20-year warranty, and a full bedding bundle.

How much is a Layla mattress?

Layla mattresses range from around $1,051 CAD to $1,752 CAD, depending on the size, and the USD to CAD conversion rate at the time of your purchase. Keep in mind that prices are listed in USD on the Layla website and won't convert to Canadian dollars during checkout. You'll also need to factor in the $150 USD shipping fee to Canada to your total final price.

Where can I buy a Layla mattress in Canada?

You can only buy the Layla mattress from the company's U.S. website. It does ship to Canada, but prices stay in USD and don't update to CAD at checkout.

Does Layla ship to Canada?

Yes, but there's a catch. Layla charges $150 USD for Canadian shipping, no matter which size you order. That fee is not refundable, even if you return the mattress.

Does the Layla mattress have fiberglass?

The law label on the Layla mattress we tested didn't list fiberglass, silica, or related materials. Layla doesn't make any mention of fiberglass on its website.

What Layla mattress alternatives should I consider?

The Douglas Original is a solid Layla mattress alternative. It's made in Canada, costs $799 CAD for a queen, and comes with cooling gel foam, a moisture-wicking cover, and better edge support. You also get free shipping and returns, a 365-night trial, and a free bedding bundle, all included in the price.
