Priced at $473 for a queen size, the Lucid memory foam mattress is available through retailers like Wayfair, Walmart and Amazon. It also comes in several firmness levels and thicknesses. We tested the 10″ medium version for this review. While it performs well in some areas, concerns around product quality and return policies could be worth keeping in mind.

Mattress Layers

Lucid Memory Foam stands 10" tall and includes three layers:

  • 1st Layer: 2.5" of ventilated cooling gel memory foam that provides cushioning and comfort.
  • 2nd Layer: 1.5" of transition foam that prevents you from feeling the support layer underneath.
  • 3rd Layer: 5.5" of hypoallergenic bamboo charcoal support foam that absorbs odour to help keep the mattress fresh.

Mattress Cover

The Lucid mattress has a polyester-rayon blend cover with a zipper along the edge. The top fabric has a smooth texture and a light sheen that's typical of rayon blends. Although the cover is zippered, it isn't meant to be removed or tossed in the washing machine. For spills or stains, spot-cleaning is the way to go.

Mattress Performance

/10

Made in

Firmness

Lucid scored 5.5/10 in third-party testing. That places it in the medium-firm range, which is often good for back and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers may prefer a softer feel for added pressure relief.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress sinks under applied weight. The lower the score out of 10, the softer the mattress.

5.5

/10

Edge Support

Lucid scored a 6.8/10 for edge support, which is good for a foam mattress. Good edge support is helpful if you like sitting on the side of the bed, tend to sleep closer to the edge, or share the mattress with a partner.

For comparison, Juno scored 8.0/10 for edge support in the same testing, offering much better stability around the edges.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress edge sinks under applied weight. A mattress with average to good edge support will score 5/10 or higher.

6.8

/10

Cooling Features

Our mattress reviewers gave Lucid a cooling score of 2.7/10. While it does include some cooling elements, they may not be enough for hot sleepers. This score is based on the following features:

  • Gel-infused memory foam in the top layer
  • Ventilated channels for basic airflow

If you're looking for a mattress with similar cooling features but stronger overall performance, Juno scored 3.2/10 and offers better edge support and motion isolation. It's made in Canada and comes with a longer 120-night sleep trial.

Our Rating
?

Determined by entering a mattress's cooling features into our scoring algorithm. The more effective cooling features that are present, the higher the score out of 10.

2.7

/10

Motion Isolation

The Lucid Memory Foam mattress scored 8.1/10 for motion isolation, a great score for a foam mattress. This means it's effective at limiting the transfer of movement across the bed, which can be helpful for couples or light sleepers.

Our Rating
?

Determined by measuring a medicine ball's impact on the mattress. Average to good motion isolation would be 5/10 or higher.

8.1

/10

Bounce

Lucid had a 2.6/10 bounce score, which is on the lower end. A mattress with low bounce tends to absorb movement well, which can reduce disturbances from a partner's movements.

Our Rating
?

Determined by dropping a medicine ball onto the mattress. The higher the first bounce, the higher the score out of 10.

Lucid launched in 2010 with just 100 mattresses and was an early player in the bed-in-a-box market. The brand expanded into toppers, bedding, and adjustable bases, gaining traction as an Amazon best-seller by 2016. Today, Lucis is now part of Malouf Companies™, and sells products both online and through major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Home Depot. As of 2025, all Lucid mattresses are made in the U.S., reflecting Malouf's shift toward domestic manufacturing.

Customer Reviews & Feedback

Third-party review sites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot collect and publish customer feedback about companies and their products, and aren't controlled by the companies being reviewed. They offer a snapshot of overall customer satisfaction and highlight common issues shoppers might face. Checking ratings on sites like these can be a useful way for customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.

Despite its experience, Lucid maintains only a "B" (unaccredited) rating on BBB and a "Poor" score on their unclaimed Trustpilot profile. Past reports of fiberglass, mould, and early product degradation have raised concerns among customers.

Should You Buy Lucid?

Lucid

Queen $473

Lucid is a budget-friendly memory foam mattress available on Amazon Canada. While the price is appealing, budget shoppers may need to weigh cost against confidence in quality and return policies. You might like the Lucid mattress if you want:

  • A queen mattress for under $500
  • Strong motion isolation for sleeping with a partner
  • A CertiPUR-US® certified foam option

For a value foam mattress, consider the Juno mattress instead. It costs just $499 for a queen, comes with a 120-night sleep trial, and includes free returns with a full refund. You also get a 15-year warranty and a free bedding bundle. It's made in Canada and backed by a track record of higher overall customer satisfaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Lucid Mattress worth it?

Lucid mattresses are a budget-friendly option sold online through retailers like Wayfair.

But if you're looking for more confidence in your purchase, other mattresses in this price range offer better value. Juno, for example, includes a cooling gel layer, 120-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle.

Where can I buy a Lucid mattress in Canada?

Lucid mattresses are available through Amazon.ca and other third-party sellers like Walmart and Wayfair. Just keep in mind that once a Lucid mattress is opened, it usually can't be returned, even if it doesn't meet expectations.

If you're looking for a mattress made in Canada with a full refund policy, 120-night sleep trial, and a 15-year warranty, Juno could be a better fit.

Where are Lucid mattresses made?

The Lucid mattress we reviewed had a foam core made in Spain and a cover made in China. Manufacturing locations may vary by model or seller.

Who makes Lucid mattresses?

Lucid is owned by Malouf Companies™, a U.S. based company that also makes products under the Linenspa brand.

Can you flip a Lucid mattress?

No. Like most foam mattresses today, Lucid is designed with a one-sided construction. You can rotate it head-to-foot every few months to help it wear evenly, but it shouldn't be flipped.

Do Lucid mattresses contain fiberglass?

The Lucid mattress we tested didn't list fiberglass on the law label. Even so, some customers have raised concerns about the Lucid mattresses having fiberglass. If your mattress law label lists "fiberglass," "glass fibers," or "silica fibers," don't remove the cover, as doing so could release those materials into your home.

What are some alternatives to the Lucid mattress?

For a similar price, Juno offers a more complete package. You'll get a 120-night trial, free returns, and a 15-year warranty. Juno also includes a free bedding bundle, so you don't have to shop separately for pillows, sheets, or a mattress protector.
