Puffy Lux is a 12" foam mattress that comes in one firmness option. Puffy categorizes Lux as a medium-plush mattress, while it fell into our medium category in third-party engineer testing. This mattress has a thicker comfort layer that's made up of 3″ of cooling gel foam. The comfort layer likely contributes to the mattress's less-firm feel: a firmness level that might not work for all sleep styles.

Mattress Layers

The Puffy Lux mattress contains 4 layers of foam. All foam used in this mattress is CertiPUR-US® certified.

  • 1st Layer: 1.5″ of cooling gel foam that hugs your body and helps draw away heat.
  • 2nd Layer: 1.5″ of cooling gel foam for added contouring and pressure relief.
  • 3rd Layer: 2″ of transition foam, branded by Puffy as Climate Comfort™ foam, designed to provide a smoother shift between the softer comfort layers and the firmer support base.
  • 4th Layer: 7" high-density support foam that provides structure and keeps you from sinking too deeply.

Mattress Cover

Puffy LUX has a modern look thanks to its simple white top cover and grey sidewalls. Its cover is embroidered with miniature cloud emblems, and the Puffy logo is stitched in light blue at the foot of the bed.

According to a chat agent on Puffy's website, the cover is removable and machine-washable. However, the law label of the mattress we purchased said to spot-clean the mattress only. Be sure to check with Puffy's customer service team before removing the cover so you don't void your warranty.

Mattress Testing

/10

Made in

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Puffy Lux scored 5.2/10 for firmness based on its deflection of 3.6″ under pressure. This places it in the medium range. Side sleepers may appreciate the softer feel, while back and stomach sleepers might find the Puffy Lux provides less support than they prefer.

If you want a medium-firm mattress suitable for a variety of sleep styles, you might want to take a look at the Douglas Summit which earned a firmness score of 6.7/10.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress sinks under applied weight. The lower the score out of 10, the softer the mattress.

5.2

/10

Edge Support

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, Puffy Lux scored 7.8/10 for edge support. This is a very good score for a foam mattress. Sleepers can sleep near or sit on the edge of the bed without any trouble.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress edge sinks under applied weight. A mattress with average to good edge support will score 5/10 or higher.

7.8

/10

Cooling Features

Although Puffy Lux is advertised as having advanced temperature regulating features, there were only 2 clear cooling layers that our mattress reviewers could identify. Puffy Lux earned a cooling features score of 1.3/10 thanks to its:

  1. Gel-infused foam, which helps to draw heat away from the body and supports temperature regulation.
  2. Climate Comfort™ foam, which is designed to provide additional cooling, though the exact effect isn't specified by the manufacturer.

If cooling is a priority for you, but you want to spend less, the Douglas Summit offers a more accessible option. It's built with features aimed at keeping you cool, including a moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover with cooling nanofibres, gel foam infused with phase-change material, and a breathable transition layer to help with airflow. In third-party testing, it earned a cooling feature score of 7.6/10. This is a solid result, especially considering the price difference: $1,299 for a queen compared to $2,899 for the Puffy Lux.

Our Rating
?

Determined by entering a mattress's cooling features into our scoring algorithm. The more effective cooling features that are present, the higher the score out of 10.

1.3

/10

Motion Isolation

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Puffy Lux scored 6.6/10 for motion isolation. This is a good score for a foam mattress. You might feel larger movements from a partner, but smaller movements shouldn't be noticed.

Want a mattress with even more motion isolation? You might want to take a look at the Douglas Summit, which earned a motion isolation score of 8.8/10. Douglas is a great option if you're a light sleeper or share your bed.

Our Rating
?

Determined by measuring a medicine ball's impact on the mattress. Average to good motion isolation would be 5/10 or higher.

6.6

/10

Bounce

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Puffy Lux scored 2.3/10 for bounce. This is below average for a foam mattress, which means you may notice that changing positions on this mattress requires a bit more effort, and it may feel less responsive when getting in and out of bed.

If you're looking for a mattress with more responsiveness, the Douglas Summit could be a better fit. In third-party engineer testing, it scored 3.0/10 for bounce.

Our Rating
?

Determined by dropping a medicine ball onto the mattress. The higher the first bounce, the higher the score out of 10.
