Mattress Layers

Serta Chinook contains 2 layers of foam and measures 10.5" tall. Like most combination foam mattresses today, the layers work together to provide a comfortable yet supportive sleep surface. All foam used in the mattress is CertiPUR-US® certified.

  • 1st Layer: 2" cooling gel foam designed to promote comfort and some level of cooling.
  • 2nd Layer: 7″ soy-infused foam that acts as the support layer. This layer gives the mattress most of its bulk, and stops you from sinking too deeply into it when you're lying down.

Mattress Cover

The Serta Chinook has a simple, modern design with a white and grey colour patterned to illustrate the wind. The cover is entirely made of polyester. According to the law label attached to the mattress, the cover on the Serta Chinook is spot-clean only.

Mattress Testing

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Serta Chinook was found to fall in our "medium-firm" category, based on the 6.9/10 firmness score it received. Medium-firm mattresses are suitable for most sleepers, providing a balance of comfort and support.

If you are looking for a mattress that's on the lower end of medium-firm, check out Juno, which scored 6.0/10 for firmness.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress sinks under applied weight. The lower the score out of 10, the softer the mattress.

6.9

/10

Edge Support

Serta Chinook scored 8.3/10 for edge support. This is great score for a foam mattress. Sleepers should feel supported on the edge of the mattress.

If you want a more affordable mattress with similar edge support, you might want to take a look at the Juno, which earned a great edge support score of 8.0/10.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress edge sinks under applied weight. A mattress with average to good edge support will score 5/10 or higher.

8.3

/10

Cooling Features

Serta Chinook features a single cooling feature to help keep things cool at night. This mattress earned points for its:

  1. Layer of cooling gel foam to absorb excess heat throughout the night

If cooling is a priority for you, but you're not looking to spend a lot, the Juno offers a more affordable option. Juno comes with cooling gel foam but also has the option to upgrade to a Cool+ CoolSense® cover made from special cooling yarn for better temperature regulation. Considering the price difference ($499 for a Juno queen compared to $749 for the Serta Chinook), the Juno might be a good option.

Our Rating
?

Determined by entering a mattress's cooling features into our scoring algorithm. The more effective cooling features that are present, the higher the score out of 10.

1.2

/10

Motion Isolation

The Serta Chinook scored 6.8/10 for motion isolation. This is a good score for a foam mattress. Good motion isolation is important if you share a bed and you want undisturbed sleep. While you might feel larger movements from a partner, smaller movements shouldn't be noticed.

Our Rating
?

Determined by measuring a medicine ball's impact on the mattress. Average to good motion isolation would be 5/10 or higher.

6.8

/10

Bounce

The Serta Chinook scored 3.7/10 for bounce. This is a typical score for foam mattresses. In a mattress, bounce really comes down to preference. Bounce is all about how quickly the mattress returns to its shape after you sit or lie down on it. If a mattress has a lot of bounce, it's easier to switch positions. On the other hand, one with less bounce can help keep movements from disturbing your partner.

Our Rating
?

Determined by dropping a medicine ball onto the mattress. The higher the first bounce, the higher the score out of 10.

Delivery & Other Policies

The Serta Chinook mattress is sold exclusively through Canadian Tire and ships from warehouses across Canada. Delivery typically takes 3–10 business days, depending on your location. The mattress arrives in a box, making it easy to move around.

Canadian Tire offers a few delivery options at checkout. The standard delivery includes curbside or front-door drop-off at no extra charge. For larger items, you can choose the delivery which brings the mattress into a room of your choice. There's also an option to have the packaging removed, but setup and mattress assembly aren't included. A full white-glove delivery service is not currently available.

The Serta Chinook includes a 100-night sleep trial. While Serta recommends trying the mattress for the full 100 nights, Canadian Tire's return policy requires that returns be completed within 90 days of purchase. They'll direct you to donate the mattress to a local charity and provide a donation receipt, which you'll then bring to Canadian Tire for a full refund. Should You Buy Serta Chinook?

Serta Chinook

Queen $749

The Serta Chinook could be a good fit if you're looking:

  • A mattress distributed by Canadian Tire mattress with very good motion isolation
  • A mattress made in Canada

That said, if you're looking for a mattress with better cooling features, a longer trial period, and a 15-year warranty, you might want to consider the Juno. It offers great motion isolation, and a 120-night trial, all at a more approachable price point of $499 for a queen size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Serta Chinook mattresses good?

The Serta Chinook is a Canadian-made foam mattress with a medium-firm feel. It offers very good motion isolation and edge support, and may appeal to shoppers looking for a simple, all-foam design.

We think you should consider Juno instead. For half the price of Serta Chinook, it offers better cooling features, great edge support, and good motion isolation. Juno also comes with a free sleep accessories bundle, a 120-night sleep trial, and a 15-year warranty.

Where are Serta mattresses made?

Serta Chinook is made in Canada. The mattress uses CertiPUR-US® certified foams, including soy-based support foam and gel-infused memory foam for temperature regulation.

Is Serta Chinook available in a king size?

No, the Serta Chinook is currently only available in twin, double, and queen sizes.

If you're looking for a king-size mattress or an option available in all standard and RV sizes, the Juno mattress could be a great alternative to consider.

How long do I have to keep Serta Chinook before I can return it?

While the Serta Chinook comes with a 100-night sleep trial, Canadian Tire's return policy requires that all returns be completed within 90 days of purchase. If you're not satisfied, contact Serta's customer service team within that window. They'll guide you through the return process, which typically involves donating the mattress to a registered charity and bringing the donation receipt to Canadian Tire for a full refund (minus any delivery fees).

What Serta Chinook alternatives should I consider?

If you're comparing mattresses, you might want to take a look at the Juno. Like the Chinook, it's a more budget-friendly foam mattress made in Canada, but it comes with a few extra perks at a lower price. Juno features strong edge support and motion isolation, and is built with a cooling gel foam layer to help regulate temperature at night.
