The S&S Mattress is a memory foam mattress that comes in three firmness options. Silk & Snow uses different foam amounts and densities to create each firmness level. All the foam Silk & Snow uses is CertiPUR-US® certified, made by a Toronto manufacturer.

Mattress Layers

The medium-firm Silk & Snow mattress contains 3 layers of foam and measures 10" tall. S&S achieves its comfort and support by using:

  • 1st Layer: 2" of open-cell, high-density gel memory foam that cushions pressure points while helping to regulate temperatures.
  • 2nd Layer: 2" of polyurethane foam that helps reduce motion transfer and adds a bit of cushioning between the comfort and support layers.
  • 3rd Layer: 6" of support base foam that adds firmness and overall support at the bottom of the mattress.

Mattress Cover

The S&S Mattress features a two-tone design, with a dark blue base and a white top cover. The zipper wraps fully around the mattress, so the cover can be removed and machine-washed. The cover is made from 100% polyester, according to the law label. Silk & Snow says this fabric is antimicrobial, but doesn't explain how it treats its polyester to have this property.

For a moisture-wicking, removable cover with plant-based fibres, check out Douglas.

Mattress Testing

/10

Made in

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the medium-firm S&S mattress scored 6.0/10 for firmness, which puts it in our "medium-firm" category.

Silk & Snow describes this model as a 6/8 for firmness on their website, which would be a 7.5/10 on our scale. That means S&S might be softer than you expect. That said, medium-firm mattresses are a good choice for most sleep styles and body types.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress sinks under applied weight. The lower the score out of 10, the softer the mattress.

/10

Edge Support

The Silk & Snow mattress scored 7.5/10 for edge support, which is a very good result. You can feel confident and secure no matter where you're sitting or lying down on the mattress.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress edge sinks under applied weight. A mattress with average to good edge support will score 5/10 or higher.

7.5

/10

Cooling

Our mattress reviewers gave the S&S mattress a cooling feature score of 2.0/10. Silk & Snow's earned points for its:

  1. Gel-infused foam that makes the mattress surface cool to the touch
  2. Open-cell foam construction in the comfort layer for breathability

For a mattress with more cooling features at a similar price, we recommend Douglas Original, which scores higher at 5.0/10 and costs $799 for a queen size.

Our Rating
?

Determined by entering a mattress's cooling features into our scoring algorithm. The more effective cooling features that are present, the higher the score out of 10.

2.0

/10

Motion Isolation

The S&S mattress earned a 6.7/10 for motion isolation in third-party engineer testing, which is a good score. Smaller movements shouldn't travel much across the mattress, but you may feel larger movements.

For those who want top-notch motion isolation, we recommend the Douglas Original, which has a higher motion isolation score of 8.3/10.

Our Rating
?

Determined by measuring a medicine ball's impact on the mattress. Average to good motion isolation would be 5/10 or higher.

6.7

/10

Bounce

In testing, Silk & Snow scored 2.7/10 for bounce. This is below average for a foam mattress. In a mattress, the level of bounce needed comes down to preference. Bounce is all about how quickly the mattress returns into shape after you sit or lie down on it. Low bounce in a mattress can help keep a steady surface and cut down on unwanted movement.

Our Rating
?

Determined by dropping a medicine ball onto the mattress. The higher the first bounce, the higher the score out of 10.

Sleep Country Canada

Toronto, ON

Silk & Snow is a North American brand that offers a range of bed and bath products to customers in both Canada and the United States.

Silk & Snow entered into the bed-in-a-box market in 2017 with its first memory foam mattress, formerly known as the Original, now renamed the S&S Mattress. Since then, the brand has expanded its lineup to include two more mattress models and a range of bath products.

Sleep Country Canada acquired Silk & Snow in early 2023. While their mattresses are still sold exclusively through Silk & Snow's website and branded stores, Sleep Country does stock a selection of the brand's accessories.

Should You Buy Silk & Snow?

The Silk & Snow Mattress

Queen $800

The Silk & Snow mattress comes in 3 firmness options, and has strong motion isolation and edge support scores. That said, the mattress only has a couple of cooling features, which may make it a less ideal choice for hot sleepers. You might like the S&S mattress if you want:

  • A Canadian-made mattress
  • A machine-washable cover
  • A sleep trial and warranty longer than the industry standard

If you're looking for more cooling features and higher motion isolation at around the same price point, the Canadian-made Douglas Original is worth considering. Douglas comes with an identical 365-night sleep trial and a longer 20-year warranty.
