Structube is a chain of home furnishings stores specializing in contemporary and modern designs. Once a single, family-owned storefront in Montreal, the Quebec-based company now boasts over 55 retail locations across Canada. Their lineup of budget mattresses has recently joined their in-store and online collections to complement their bedroom furniture. Structube sells both foam-based and pocketed spring boxed mattresses.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.

Structube uses FedEx Standard Ground, Canada Post, or their own company shipping service to deliver their products directly customers’ doors. Smaller items (including the Nuaj 12″ foam mattress) can also be shipped for free to a local Structube store for customers to pick up. There is a standard shipping fee for home delivery, and Structube customers can expect their new mattress to be delivered within 1 to 2 weeks pending availability.

Structube has a standard exchange and return policy, including a sleep trial for mattresses. At 7 nights, this sleep trial is considerably shorter than most mattress-in-a-box companies. Customers who wish to return their Structube mattress may arrange for the item to be picked up by contacting the company, though return fees apply. (Exchanges and returns cannot be processed in-store.)

It is worth noting that Mattress-Reviews.com did not complete the return process, but received this information via the ‘Exchange & Return Policy’ on Structube’s website.

We accepted shipment of the Structube Nuaj mattress in-store within two weeks after placing our order. Sometimes mattress boxes can be damaged by the shipping and delivery process. To account for this, most bed-in-a-box companies wrap their mattresses in multiple layers of durable plastic protection to compensate for any mishaps during the transit process.

The Structube mattress box was sealed well with heavy-duty tape. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the box. To avoid harm to your new purchase, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to open the box.

Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattress out from its cardboard container. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. It’s most efficient to do this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.

The Structube Nuaj mattress is protected with multiple layers of heavy-duty plastic to compress it in a vacuum seal and keep it tightly rolled in a cylinder shape.

Customers will need to unwrap the outer layers in order to unroll the mattress, which will still be in its compressed form. Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the mattress bundle onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find and peel back the outer layer of plastic. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattress will be lying unrolled before you.

Next, cut the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal now broken, the mattress will begin to decompress. Remove this final layer of plastic as the mattress expands to its full height. With the Structube Nuaj mattress, full expansion took approximately 24 hours.

The Structube Nuaj is a combination foam mattress. By combining different foam types, densities, and firmness levels, Structube has designed a configuration that offers reasonable comfort, cooling, and support.

The Structube Nuaj is available in multiple heights but only one firmness option. Structube has adopted the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach common among mattress-in-a-box retailers.

Structube Mattress Layers

Image of the Structube mattress foam layers.

The Structube Nuaj 12″ mattress contains two layers of foam. Like many of the combination foam mattresses on the market today, the layers work together to provide an overall level of comfort and support.

  • First layer: 4 inches of gel memory foam. This top layer of foam slowly contours to the body while also offering cooling properties that encourage airflow within the mattress. Layer density: Unspecified.
  • Second layer: 8 inches of polyfoam. This rigid bottom layer makes the foundation of the mattress and keeps the sleeper from sinking in too far. Layer density: Unspecified.

Of note: Foam density information for the Structube Nuaj mattress is not publicly available. The foam used in this mattress is not CertiPUR-US® certified.

Structube Mattress Cover

Image of the Structube mattress cover fabric.

The Structube Nuaj mattress has a simple white cover with wavy quilting to add an element of texture. Though the law label on the mattress did not disclose the fabric content, Structube’s customer support team confirmed that the cover is 100% polyester and can be spot-cleaned only. A zipper across the full length of the mattress sidewall allows owners to remove the top panel for easier care and maintenance.

Structube Mattress: Environmental Sustainability

Consumers are becoming more environmentally conscious when making purchases. Retailers both in and out of the mattress industry have been incorporating more eco-friendly and ethical policies when selling products and choosing suppliers. GoodMorning.com Inc. carried out a survey in February 2017, discovering that almost 50% of Canadians are willing to spend more money for more environmentally friendly products. Therefore, in every review on Mattress-Reviews.com, we will highlight each mattress company’s green philosophy, as well as how prominent their policies are on their websites.

Feel & Firmness

The 12-inch version of the Structube Nuaj classifies as a firm mattress. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), it is rated at 8.7 / 10 on the firmness spectrum. The Structube Nuaj 12″ does have much ‘hug.’

Looping video of the Structube mattress motion isolation test.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation in foam mattresses is usually very good and one of the main reasons couples make the switch from innerspring to memory foam. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Structube performed above average in this regard, rating at 6.5 / 10 on the motion isolation scale.

Image of the Structube mattress edge support test.

Edge Support

Foam and latex mattresses often have lower edge support scores than their spring and hybrid counterparts. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Structube Nuaj is rated at 8.2 / 10 on the edge support scale.

Looping video image of the Structube mattress bounce test.

Bounce

Due to the fact that motion isolation for foam mattresses is generally very good, bounce is generally very low. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Structube Nuaj 12″ mattress rated 6.4 / 10 for bounce, which is higher than average due to the mattress’ overall firmness.

Who buys a Structube mattress?

Remember, Mattress-Reviews.com is owned, operated, and paid for by GoodMorning.com Inc. and advertises the Novosbed, Douglas, Juno, Recore, Brunswick, Logan & Cove, and Podium brands. The following is strictly our competitive opinion:

Structube mattresses are less well-known than other bed-in-a-box mattresses; they are most likely to appeal to eager brand enthusiasts who own other household furnishings from the company. The Nuaj mattress competes in the budget mattress category, so the 7-day sleep trial, stock availability, and lengthy delivery time are less likely to enter into the purchase decision if the price is right. Nonetheless, mattress shoppers will also have plenty of other options at this price point, such as Zinus and Bloom Earth. The Nuaj’s very firm sleep surface may be the deciding factor for budget shoppers.

However, due to its minimal amount of verified reviews from owners, mattress shoppers are encouraged to investigate other mattresses in this category before making their purchase decision. Detailed reviews are included both in the Best Mattress listings, as well as in the Reviews Directory.

Buy a Structube mattress if you want:

  • A firm foam mattress at a fair price
  • A foam mattress with relatively high bounce ratings
  • A lower overall price for a shorter trial period
  • A mattress made in Europe
