Canada, Vietnam

The Casper Atlas is a hybrid mattress, which means it uses layers of coils and foam to create a comfortable but responsive surface. Atlas is made in Canada, and all the foam used in its construction is CertiPUR-US® certified.

Mattress Layers

Casper Atlas has 4 separate layers and is 10" tall. Casper's construction gives it a medium-firm feel and very good edge support.

  • 1st Layer: 1.5″ polyurethane foam that offers a plush feel and body support. This top layer cushions the body for initial comfort and helps ease you into sleep.
  • 2nd Layer: 1.5″ transition foam that helps with pressure relief and smooths the feel between layers. It also promotes better spinal alignment and reduces pressure on key areas like the shoulders and hips.
  • 3rd Layer: 6″ pocketed coils with individually wrapped metal coils, reinforced with foam along the edge for support. These coils provide targeted support across the body, reduce motion transfer between partners, and improve stability around the perimeter of the mattress.
  • 4th Layer: 1″ support foam that provides stability for the coil system and acts as a buffer. This final layer helps anchor the coils and reinforces the overall durability of the mattress.

Mattress Cover

The Casper Atlas mattress features a top panel that has a subtle knit pattern and a two-tone design on the side panels for contrast. The cover is made from a blend of polyester, polypropylene, and a small amount of spandex. Although the top label mentions it's machine washable, Casper recommends not removing it. The zipper is non-functional, so you'll have to spot clean any spills or stains.

Feel & Firmness

In third-party engineer testing we commissioned, the Casper Atlas scored 6.5/10 for firmness. This lands it in the medium-firm range for mattress firmness, which is good for all those who sleep on their backs or stomachs.

If you prefer something slightly firmer with more support, Logan & Cove scored 6.9/10 for firmness and includes added cooling layers that may appeal to warm sleepers.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress sinks under applied weight. The lower the score out of 10, the softer the mattress.

6.5

/10

Edge Support

Casper Atlas scored 7.8/10 for edge support, a very good score for a hybrid. You can sit or sleep near the edge without sliding off, which can be helpful for those who share a bed or who sit on their bed often.

Our Rating
?

Determined by how much the mattress edge sinks under applied weight. A mattress with average to good edge support will score 5/10 or higher.

7.8

/10

Cooling Features

Casper Atlas has a cooling feature score of 1.8/10. While the Atlas isn't designed specifically as a cooling mattress, it does have features that may help regulate temperature:

  1. Breathable knit cover designed to allow airflow at the surface
  2. Individually wrapped coils that promote air circulation through the core

If cooling features are important to you, Logan & Cove Choice may be a better fit. Choice earned a cooling feature score of 5.0/10, which is higher than many hybrids at its price point ($999 for a queen).

Our Rating
?

Determined by entering a mattress's cooling features into our scoring algorithm. The more effective cooling features that are present, the higher the score out of 10.

1.8

/10

Motion Isolation

The Casper Atlas scored 8.0/10 for motion isolation. This is great for a hybrid mattress. You might feel larger movements from a partner, but smaller movements shouldn't be noticed.

Our Rating
?

Determined by measuring a medicine ball's impact on the mattress. Average to good motion isolation would be 5/10 or higher.

8.0

/10

Bounce

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Casper Atlas scored 6.8/10 for bounce. Bounce is all about how quickly the mattress returns into shape after you apply pressure to it. If a mattress has a lot of bounce, it's easier to switch positions. On the other hand, one with less bounce can help keep movements from disturbing your partner.

If you're looking for a hybrid mattress with a more stable feel, check out the Logan & Cove Choice with its lower score of 5.8/10 for a more motion-absorbing sleep surface.

Our Rating
?

Determined by dropping a medicine ball onto the mattress. The higher the first bounce, the higher the score out of 10.

Sleep Country Canada

Brampton, ON (Sleep Country Canada HQ)

Casper was one of the first bed-in-a-box brands to gain widespread recognition in North America, launching in 2014. Since then, most of its competitors have joined the bed-in-a-box mattress industry with more specialized options, a lower price point, or a combination of the two.

Casper went public in 2020 but was taken private again in 2022 after a stock collapse. In 2022, Casper shut down its European operations, focusing on the North American market. In 2023, Casper sold its Canadian operations to Sleep Country Canada, and in 2024, its US operations were acquired by one of its suppliers, Carpenter Corporation.

Today, the company offers mattresses, bedding accessories, and home decor. Products are sold online, through branded retail stores, and at Sleep Country locations in Canada. Their mattresses sometimes have rotating sales or deals that may include free sleep accessories.
