Product Overview
The IKEA ABROTTEN is an all-foam mattress sold both online and in-store through IKEA Canada. It’s built with 3 foam layers, one of which is designed to improve airflow.
At $599 for a queen, ABROTTEN has decent motion isolation and standout edge support. That said, its cooling features are limited, which might be a drawback if you’re a warmer sleeper or looking for extra comfort features.
Like other IKEA mattresses, ABROTTEN comes with a 90-night trial that allows for exchanges or store credit only. No refund is available, and any returns need to be made in-store.
If you’re after similar features at a lower price, the Juno mattress is available at just $499 for a queen. It comes with a 120-night sleep trial, 30 days longer than the IKEA ABROTTEN, free returns with a full refund, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with every eligible purchase.

IKEA ABROTTEN Mattress Construction
IKEA ABROTTEN is an all-foam mattress. It stands 8" tall and has 3 layers. One of these foam layers is perforated to promote airflow. The foam in this mattress isn't CertiPUR-US® certified. It also doesn't have many cooling features. This could be a downside for hot sleepers, especially during warmer nights.
Mattress Layers
- 1st Layer: 1.5" of high-resilience polyurethane foam offers pressure relief without too much sink, keeping you supported instead of feeling stuck in the mattress.
- 2nd Layer: 1.25" of polyurethane foam adds extra pressure-point relief. IKEA describes this foam layer as "soft and resilient".
- 3rd Layer: 5.5" of convoluted polyurethane support foam provides structural support to the mattress, preventing too much sinkage and also improving breathability.
Mattress Cover
The IKEA ABROTTEN mattress has a quilted cover made from a mix of polyester and polyethylene. It's mostly white with a soft grey zipper trim that runs around the edge, and is machine washable. IKEA lines the cover with breathable polypropylene for added airflow, which they describe as "sportswear fibres." The result is a stretchy, soft-touch surface. Underneath, there's also a removable inner cover made from recycled polyester.
Mattress Testing
To ensure our mattress reviews are thorough and trustworthy, we buy the products ourselves and have them tested by independent licensed engineers (commissioned by us) with no stake in the results.
These third-party engineers apply a consistent testing process to every mattress using a detailed framework. Every mattress is tested the same way, whether it's foam or hybrid. Because these types perform differently, we rate them on separate scales to ensure the scores are fair and meaningful.
We believe independent testing is essential to producing reliable and meaningful comparisons. That's why all test results are reviewed and signed off by an APEGA-certified engineer, operating under a strict code of ethics.
We use the testing results and over 40 criteria to build our scoring methodology.
Tests and reviews without this level of professional oversight may be more prone to errors and unintended bias.

Delivery & Other Policies
IKEA ships mattresses to most areas in Canada through FedEx. Delivery fees starting at $39 for contactless doorstep delivery or $59 for in-home delivery. For this review, the ABROTTEN mattress was picked up in-store.
It was rolled and wrapped in plastic, but it didn't come in a box, which made it more awkward to move. It was loosely rolled, resulting in a bulkier shape that was wider and taller than typical boxed mattresses. Even with the back seats folded down, it didn't fit in a mid-sized vehicle that would typically hold this mattress size.
The ABROTTEN mattress comes with a 90-night sleep trial, which is shorter than the 100-night industry standard offered by many other brands. IKEA's return policy allows for a one-time exchange or a store credit; refunds are not available. If the replacement mattress is more expensive, the price difference must be paid.
Returns don't require re-rolling or boxing, but the mattress must be protected during transport using a plastic cover, wrap, or an IKEA mattress bag (available at their delivery counter). Pickup service is available for an added fee and only if the mattress is returned clean and undamaged.
If you are looking for extended trial flexibility and a longer warranty, you can consider Juno. It offers a 120-night sleep trial, free return pickup for a full refund, and a 15-year warranty for a lower price in comparison.

IKEA ABROTTEN performed well in third-party engineer testing that we commissioned. It's priced lower than many other foam mattresses we've reviewed, but doesn't include many cooling features. It also only comes with a 90-day exchange policy and no full refunds.
If you're looking for more flexibility, consider Juno. It includes a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and free returns with pickup. At just $499 for a queen, it's one of the most budget-friendly options we've tested.
How long is IKEA's warranty?
IKEA mattresses include a 10-year limited warranty that covers manufacturing defects. It doesn't cover regular wear and tear or accidental damage. That means any issues that come up during transport, like damage from loading the mattress into a vehicle, aren't covered.
Who makes IKEA mattresses?
The packaging indicated that the IKEA mattress we received was manufactured in Mexico. As a global Swedish furniture brand, IKEA sources its products from factories around the world, with most production taking place in countries like China, Poland, Italy, Germany, and Sweden.
How do you return an IKEA mattress?
IKEA gives you 90 days to return a mattress. You can exchange it or get a refund on an IKEA refund card. The card doesn't expire and works both in-store and on IKEA's website. If you choose a pricier replacement, you're responsible for paying the difference.
What IKEA mattress alternatives should I consider?
You might want to check out Juno instead. It offers good edge support and above-average motion isolation. It also includes a gel-infused foam layer for cooling, and you can upgrade to a Cool+ cover for added temperature control.
Juno is available in more sizes (including RV options) and comes with a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. At $499 for a queen, it's one of the most affordable mattresses we've reviewed.

All the content on our site, from product reviews to comparisons, is intended to provide general information to help guide your mattress search. We work with independent third-party engineers to test all mattress products we purchase, and we use the test results alongside public data to inform our reviews and comparisons.
The product details in each review reflect how the mattress performed at the time we purchased and tested it, as shown by the "Published" date.
Since brands can update their materials, pricing, or availability over time, we also note when the product was originally purchased, either directly in the article or on our disclaimer page, to maintain clarity and transparency.
If you see an "Updated" tag on a page with a more recent date than the published date, it simply means we've made editorial changes. It does not necessarily indicate any update to the mattress or its test data.
Finally, unless otherwise stated, any mention of where a mattress is made refers specifically to the product we received and tested.
