Stearns & Foster Mattress Construction
With a pillow-top construction, this Canadian-made mattress features several thicker layers of foam above its coil base to provide a plush feel when you lie down, falling into the softer end of the medium-firm scale we use. The Lakeridge also features a built-in ventilation system, also known as their "AirVent System", which is intended to improve the airflow and overall breathability of the mattress.
Mattress Layers
Stearns & Foster Lakeridge contains 6 layers: 5 layers of foam and 1 layer of pocketed coils. It's 14.5" tall. None of the foam layers are CertiPUR-US® certified.
- 1st Layer: The top layer is 2" of undisclosed foam that's directly tufted under the cover.
- 2nd Layer: A 1" layer of gel foam. This layer is designed to contour to your body, relieve pressure, and help regulate mattress temperature to keep you cool through the night.
- 3rd Layer: The final layer in the "comfort layer" of this mattress is also 0.5" of gel foam, which has similar benefits as the layer above.
- 4th Layer: This 2" transition layer is made of memory foam, and it makes up the thickest foam layer in the mattress. According to Costco's product page, this layer provides both body contouring support and responsive bounce, making it easier to move on the mattress.
- 5th Layer: The support layer of the mattress is 8" of individually wrapped coils designed to offer support and reduce motion transfer. These coils are partially surrounded by edge support foam, which likely contributes to the very good edge support score this mattress received.
- 6th Layer: This bottom layer is constructed of 1" of undisclosed foam.
Mattress Cover
The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress has a button-tufted pillow-top construction. The quilted white top cover is made of 74% polyester, 1% elastic, and 25% TENCEL™ (aka lyocell) fibres. It's designed to help resist moisture, which can be helpful if you tend to sleep hot. The base of the mattress is made of 100% polyester.
You can't remove the cover for cleaning, so you'll have to spot-clean any stains or spills.
Mattress Testing
To ensure our mattress reviews are thorough and trustworthy, we buy the products ourselves and have them tested by independent licensed engineers (commissioned by us) with no stake in the results.
These third-party engineers apply a consistent testing process to every mattress using a detailed framework. Every mattress is tested the same way, whether it's foam or hybrid. Because these types perform differently, we rate them on separate scales to ensure the scores are fair and meaningful.
We believe independent testing is essential to producing reliable and meaningful comparisons. That's why all test results are reviewed and signed off by an APEGA-certified engineer, operating under a strict code of ethics.
We use the testing results and over 40 criteria to build our scoring methodology.
Tests and reviews without this level of professional oversight may be more prone to errors and unintended bias.
Delivery & Other Policies
Costco includes free shipping and white-glove delivery with the Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress. This means they'll set up the mattress in your home and take away the packaging. This is a nice perk if you don't want to deal with moving a bulky mattress yourself. Delivery usually takes 10–15 business days from the time your order is processed. The mattress arrives fully expanded and wrapped in protective plastic.
A Costco membership is needed to buy a Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress. There's also no sleep trial for this mattress. Instead, returns follow their regular return policy. If you bought the mattress in-store, you'll likely need to bring it back yourself. For online orders, Costco can arrange a pickup, but it may take 3 to 4 weeks. Stearns & Foster beds come with a 10-year warranty.
If you're looking for a mattress with a sleep trial or a longer warranty, consider a brand like Logan & Cove. Its mattresses come with a 365-night trial and a 15-year warranty, both longer than what you'll get with Stearns & Foster.

Company Overview
Stearns & Foster has a long history that dates back to 1846, when it started out making cotton upholstery for horse-drawn carriages in Cincinnati, Ohio. Over time, the company moved into luxury mattresses, first for hotels, then for consumers.
In 1993, the company merged with Sealy, and both are now part of Tempur Sealy International, recently renamed Somnigroup International in 2025.
Customer Reviews & Feedback
Third-party review sites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot collect and publish customer feedback about companies and their products, and aren't controlled by the companies being reviewed. They offer a snapshot of overall customer satisfaction and highlight common issues shoppers might face. Checking ratings on sites like these can be a useful way for customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.
On these third-party platforms, Somnigroup is still listed as Tempur Sealy. Tempur Sealy is rated "A+" on BBB, but with a customer review rating of 1.07/5. The company is rated "Poor" on Trustpilot with 2.5/5 stars.
Costco, which is the only retailer that sells the Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress model, is rated "Poor" on Trustpilot, with a star rating of 1.8/5 stars. They're also rated "C" (unaccredited) on BBB, with a customer review rating of 1.14/5.
Should You Buy Stearns & Foster Lakeridge?
Stearns & Foster Lakeridge
Queen
$1,199
Stearns & Foster Lakeridge did well in third-party engineering tests (which we commissioned) in areas like edge support and motion isolation, and it has a widely-liked medium-firm feel.
It also includes some cooling features to help keep the mattress cool throughout the night. However, you need a Costco membership to purchase this mattress, as it's sold exclusively through the warehouse giant. It could be a good fit if you're looking for:
- A mattress from a longtime established mattress brand
- Features like cooling gel foam and a moisture-wicking cover
- To take advantage of a Costco membership
We think you should consider Logan & Cove Choice instead, which you don't need a membership to purchase. For the same queen price of $1,199, it comes with a longer 365-night sleep trial, 15-year warranty, and free returns. Choice has even more cooling features, and performed just as well as the Lakeridge mattress in areas like edge support and motion isolation. Plus, you also get a free bedding bundle with your purchase, so that you're sleep-ready on night 1.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Stearns & Foster mattresses good?
The Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress performed well in third-party engineer testing (which we commissioned). It earned very good edge support and motion isolation scores, and a mid level of bounce. But there's more to a mattress than how it does in these tests.
For instance, the Lakeridge mattress comes with only an industry-average 10-year warranty and no sleep trial. It also lands on the softer end of the medium-firm scale. This firmness level may work for you if you like a plusher mattress, but others who prefer a little more support might need a mattress that's a bit firmer.
If you're looking for a hybrid mattress that performs just as well, but includes more features, you should look into Logan & Cove Choice. At $1,199 for a queen, a Logan & Cove mattress comes with a 365-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty. Along with almost identical performance scores for edge support and motion isolation, Logan & Cove Choice takes it a step further with an even higher cooling feature score. Your mattress also comes with a full bedding set to help set up your mattress, which includes a bamboo sheet set and shams, bamboo duvet cover, down alternative duvet, adjustable pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector.
Is the Stearns and Foster Lakeridge machine washable?
No, the Stearns & Foster Lakeridge doesn't have a removable cover, so you should spot clean any spills or stains on the mattress.
Where are Stearns & Foster mattresses made?
Stearns & Foster mattresses are mostly manufactured in the United States. That said, the Costco Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress is exclusive to the Kirkland Signature brand and is made in Canada.
Can you flip a Stearns & Foster mattress?
No, like most modern mattresses, the Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress isn't made to be flipped, and is meant to be used right-side-up to deliver the intended level of comfort and performance.
Do Stearns & Foster mattresses need a box spring?
No, you don't need a box spring with your Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress. The company asks that you use a sturdy bed frame to ensure that your warranty stays intact. For larger sizes, such as a queen- or king-size mattresses, they recommend that your frame include a center support beam to prevent sagging.
Can I return a Costco mattress?
Yes, you can rely on Costco's return policy for returns even though the Stearns & Foster Lakeridge model doesn't come with an exclusive sleep trial.
What Stearns & Foster mattress alternatives should I consider?
Logan & Cove Choice is a good option to look into if you want a solid Stearns & Foster alternative. Priced at $1,199 for a queen mattress, you get a lot more with your mattress when you choose Logan & Cove.
While both mattresses performed quite well for edge support and motion isolation, you get a lot more with your Logan & Cove mattress. You get a longer 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty, more cooling features like a CryoFusion™ nanofibre-infused cover, and open-cell Elastex® foam.
You also don't need to worry about buying separate bedding, since Logan & Cove mattresses come with a free bedding bundle that includes a bamboo sheet set and shams, bamboo duvet cover, down alternative duvet, adjustable pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector.

All the content on our site, from product reviews to comparisons, is intended to provide general information to help guide your mattress search. We work with independent third-party engineers to test all mattress products we purchase, and we use the test results alongside public data to inform our reviews and comparisons.
The product details in each review reflect how the mattress performed at the time we purchased and tested it, as shown by the "Published" date.
Since brands can update their materials, pricing, or availability over time, we also note when the product was originally purchased, either directly in the article or on our disclaimer page, to maintain clarity and transparency.
If you see an "Updated" tag on a page with a more recent date than the published date, it simply means we've made editorial changes. It does not necessarily indicate any update to the mattress or its test data.
Finally, unless otherwise stated, any mention of where a mattress is made refers specifically to the product we received and tested.
