Casper Snow is a 12″ hybrid mattress that’s marketed as a cooling option. Casper is a U.S. brand, but its Canadian operations are now owned by Sleep Country Canada. A queen-size Casper Snow sells for $2,999.
Octave and Casper are two popular mattress brands in Canada. Octave Horizon is a memory foam mattress, while Casper Snow is a hybrid. If you tend to sleep hot, you’re in luck. Both Octave and Casper are made with cooling technologies, and each brings its own features to the table when it comes to getting a great night’s sleep.
Casper Snow is best known for its cooling features, but it also showed very good motion isolation in third-party engineer testing that we commissioned. Casper Snow costs $2,999 for a queen size, which is more expensive than some similar competitor mattresses. It also comes with a 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty.
Octave, on the other hand, is popular for its zoned support, plus its Canadian roots and manufacturing. Octave mattresses come with a longer 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty for a much lower price of $1,499 for a queen.
If you’re unsure about which mattress to choose between The Octave and a Casper, we’ve put together a detailed comparison to help you make the right decision.

Our Top Pick For a Good Night’s Sleep
Octave Horizon has a higher overall rating than Casper Snow, according to our scoring methodology that factors in commissioned third-party engineer testing.
We include edge support and motion isolation in our overall mattress score, and we present these results using a simple colour system: green (5.0 and above), yellow (3.0–4.9), and red (2.9 and below). Cooling features aren’t part of the final rating, but we still use the same colour scale to show how each mattress performs. Firmness and bounce are more a matter of personal preference, so we display those scores in grey and exclude them from the overall score.

Both Octave Horizon and Casper Snow have 5 internal layers, but they're built pretty differently. Octave is made with layers of memory foam and latex, and stands 14" tall. Casper Snow, on the other hand, is a hybrid mattress built with foam and coils for a total height of 12".

The Octave Horizon cover features a white top cover with blue pinstripes and a deep navy side panel for contrast. Made with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres, it's the coolest cover in the Octave lineup. The fabric is cool to the touch and designed to wick away moisture, helping regulate your body temperature while you sleep. The cover is removable and machine-washable, too, for easy care.

The Casper Snow cover uses cooling yarn to make for a more comfortable sleep surface. The cover is light grey on top with a darker grey base for contrast. While there's a zipper, Casper recommends not removing the cover, so it's spot-clean only if you get any spills or stains.

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Octave Horizon and Casper Snow are very closely matched when it comes to firmness. Casper Snow comes in at 5.9/10 on the firmness scale, while Octave Horizon is just a touch firmer at 6.0/10. That puts both mattresses in the medium-firm range, which tends to work well for all sleep positions. Even though Casper markets the Snow as medium-plush, it still feels fairly close to a true medium-firm. So, whether you're a back, side, or stomach sleeper, you'll likely find either one comfortable.
Both mattresses hold up well when it comes to motion isolation and edge support. Good motion isolation means that if your partner moves around at night, you're less likely to notice, which is good if you're a light sleeper. Edge support is also useful, giving you more usable space on your mattress.
Both the Octave Horizon and Casper Snow have a range of cooling features designed to promote airflow and help you stay comfortable through the night.
Where Octave Differs:
Where Casper Differs:
These third-party engineers apply a consistent testing process to every mattress using a detailed framework. Every mattress is tested the same way, whether it's foam or hybrid. Because these types perform differently, we rate them on separate scales to ensure the scores are fair and meaningful.
We believe independent testing is essential to producing reliable and meaningful comparisons. That's why all test results are reviewed and signed off by an APEGA-certified engineer, operating under a strict code of ethics.
We use the testing results and over 40 criteria to build our scoring methodology.
Tests and reviews without this level of professional oversight may be more prone to errors and unintended bias.

All the content on our site, from product reviews to comparisons, is intended to provide general information to help guide your mattress search. We work with independent third-party engineers to test all mattress products we purchase, and we use the test results alongside public data to inform our reviews and comparisons.
Since brands can update their materials, pricing, or availability over time, we also note when the product was originally purchased, either directly in the article or on our disclaimer page, to maintain clarity and transparency.
If you see an "Updated" tag on a page with a more recent date than the published date, it simply means we've made editorial changes. It does not necessarily indicate any update to the mattress or its test data.
Finally, unless otherwise stated, any mention of where a mattress is made refers specifically to the product we received and tested.
