The Douglas Original Hybrid, Douglas Alpine Hybrid, and Douglas Summit Hybrid are all sold by the same popular Canadian brand. Each hybrid mattress is a variation of Douglas’s award-winning all-foam mattress lineup. The three mattresses have similar constructions with different layer thicknesses, offering solid features at an accessible price for Canadian shoppers. For a queen size, the Original Hybrid is $949, the Alpine Hybrid costs $1,149 and the Summit Hybrid is $1,449. Plus, each one comes with a free bedding bundle.

All three fall into our medium-firm category and have the same 365-night sleep trial and 20-year warranty. But these mattresses differ in materials and overall build. Each mattress has cooling gel foam, Elastex® transition foam, individually pocketed coils, and motion-isolation support foam. The Alpine Hybrid and the Summit Hybrid both have phase-change material added to the gel foam layer, and the Summit Hybrid has cooling nanofibres in the cover.

Which One Should You Choose?

The Douglas Original Hybrid is a great choice for any sleeper looking for an accessibly priced mattress with features like a machine-washable cover. If you want added cooling features and pressure relief, you may want to upgrade to the Douglas Alpine Hybrid. Product Details: Douglas Original Hybrid

The Douglas Original Hybrid is a medium-firm mattress built to stay cool and feel comfortable for all sleeping styles. It delivers a strong mix of support, edge stability, and motion isolation, all while promoting proper spinal alignment with its zoned support coils. Douglas also uses eco-friendly foams like ecoLift® cooling gel foam. Not only does it take less carbon input to manufacture, but it’s also designed to keep things cool and reduce pressure on your joints.

At $949 for a queen, the Douglas Original Hybrid is an accessibly priced mattress from a proudly Canadian brand. It includes a 365-night trial, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle including a cotton sheet set, duvet cover, down alternative duvet, pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector.

Product Details: Douglas Alpine Hybrid

The Alpine Hybrid is the next step up in Douglas’s hybrid lineup. Like all Douglas mattresses, it has a medium-firm feel, but focuses on offering more support than the Original model. Douglas Alpine Hybrid includes cooling gel foam, responsive Elastex® foam, and zoned support coils to help control temperature and ease pressure points. But unlike Douglas Original Hybrid, the Alpine Hybrid has phase-change material in the gel foam layer to help draw excess heat away from your body when you don’t need it, and release it when you do.

A queen is priced at $1,149, making the Douglas Alpine Hybrid one of the more affordable Canadian foam mattresses we’ve tested. It comes with the same 365-night sleep trial, 20-year warranty, and free bedding bundle as other Douglas mattresses.

Product Details: Douglas Summit Hybrid

The final mattress in the lineup, the Douglas Summit Hybrid, has a medium-firm feel that suits all types of sleepers. It shapes to the body for pressure relief, supports proper spinal alignment, and offers very good motion isolation and edge support. It has all the same materials as the Douglas Alpine Hybrid, including gel-infused foam, open-cell Elastex® foam, zoned support coils, and phase-change material. But as the coolest mattress of all the Douglas hybrids, the Summit adds cooling nanofibres in the cover.

At $1,449 for a queen, the Douglas Summit Hybrid is priced higher than the Original Hybrid and Alpine Hybrid. This price is balanced by the higher number of cooling features and the best support and pressure relief of the three mattresses. It also comes with a 365-night sleep trial, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle.

Mattress Construction

The Douglas Original Hybrid, Alpine Hybrid, and Summit Hybrid have similar construction and the same cover materials. The main differences are the layer thicknesses and the addition of phase-change material in the Alpine and Summit comfort layers. Each mattress has cooling gel foam, Elastex® transition foam, zoned pocket coils, and motion-isolation support foam. Douglas Original Hybrid measures 12″ tall, Alpine Hybrid is 13″, and Summit is tallest at 14″.

All three mattresses share the same CoolSense® cover. That said, only the Summit Hybrid’s cover is woven with cooling nanofibres for the mattress surface that’s coolest to the touch. The three covers have a mountain pattern and a bright red zipper that’s characteristic of the Douglas brand. Each cover is made using plant-based Infinitex™ fibres that wick away moisture for a cooler sleep. Plus, they’re all removable and machine washable for easy cleaning.

Douglas Original Hybrid

  • 1st Layer: 2″ ecoLift® cooling gel foam that relieves pressure points and keeps heat from building up.
  • 2nd Layer: 1″ Elastex® transition foam that cushions, contours, and provides extra bounce.
  • 3rd Layer: 8″ Exoforge™ individually pocketed coils that give extra support under the hips and lower back, with foam around the edges for better edge support.
  • 4th Layer: 1″ motion-isolation support foam that acts as a solid base and helps reduce movement across the bed.

Douglas Alpine Hybrid

close up side view of the internal layers of the Douglas Alpine Hybrid mattress

  • 1st Layer: 2.25″ ecoLift® cooling gel foam enhanced with Polar® phase-change material. On top of relieving pressure points, this layer is designed to regulate temperature by absorbing extra body heat during warmer nights and redistributing it on cooler nights.
  • 2nd Layer: 1.75″ Elastex® transition foam to promote body contouring and add responsiveness.
  • 3rd Layer: 8″ Exoforge™ individually pocketed coils, with zoned support beneath the lower back and hips. The coil layer is surrounded by a sturdy foam encasement for stronger edge support.
  • 4th Layer: 1″ motion-isolation support foam for a high-density base that provides stability and support while reducing motion transfer.

Douglas Summit Hybrid

close up side view of the internal layers of the Douglas Summit Hybrid mattress

  • 1st Layer: 2.5″ ecoLift® cooling gel foam relieves pressure points and prevents heat buildup. It contains Polar® phase-change material to absorb and redistribute body heat.
  • 2nd Layer: 2.5″ Elastex® transition foam, a latex-free open-cell foam, which provides support, bouncy responsiveness, and body contouring, similar to latex.
  • 3rd Layer: 8″ Exoforge™ pocket coils provide three-zoned support beneath the lower back and hips, with encasement foam surrounding the coils for reinforced edges.
  • 4th Layer: 1″ motion-isolation support foam to add structure and reduce motion transfer from side to side.

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, all three mattresses earned high scores for edge support and motion isolation. They also all have a medium-firm feel, which offers comfort and support for all sleep styles, including back, side, and stomach sleepers.

Where Douglas Original Hybrid Differs:

  • The Douglas Original Hybrid earned a great edge support score of 8.3/10. Edge support helps your body stay upright on the mattress when you sit on the edge, and it gives you more usable space.
  • This mattress received a standout motion isolation score of 9.0/10. This helps cut down on how much you notice your partner’s movements while sleeping.
  • A bouncier mattress makes it easier for you to change sleep positions and move around in bed. The Douglas Original Hybrid has a high bounce score of 8.0/10.
  • The Douglas Original Hybrid earned a cooling score of 5.3/10 because of its cooling gel foam, open-cell Elastex® foam, breathable pocket coils, and moisture-wicking cover.

Where Douglas Alpine Hybrid Differs:

  • The Douglas Alpine Hybrid also received a great edge support score of 8.8/10—higher than the Douglas Original Hybrid.
  • It scored 9.2/10 for motion isolation, which is the highest motion isolation score of any Douglas mattress. It should provide a restful and undisturbed sleep.
  • With a slightly lower bounce score of 7.7/10, the Douglas Alpine Summit provides a similar level of bounce as the Original Hybrid.
  • The Douglas Alpine Hybrid earned a higher cooling score of 7.6/10. It has the same cooling gel foam, open-cell Elastex® foam, breathable pocket coils, and moisture-wicking cover as the Douglas Original Hybrid, as well as phase-change material applied to the gel foam layer.

Where Douglas Summit Hybrid Differs:

  • The Douglas Summit Hybrid has a very good edge support score of 7.5/10. While this is lower than the scores of the other two Douglas Hybrid mattresses, it’s higher than average, so you should still enjoy good edge support.
  • The Douglas Summit Hybrid has the lowest bounce score of the three mattresses at 7.0/10. This is still a high bounce score, so the mattress will be highly responsive.
  • With a score of 7.9/10, the Douglas Summit Hybrid has the most cooling features of the three Douglas Hybrid mattresses. It has cooling gel foam, open-cell Elastex® foam, breathable pocket coils, a moisture-wicking cover, and phase-change material in the gel foam layer. Cooling nanofibres are also woven into the cover for a cooler feel.

Douglas offers free shipping to most locations across Canada via FedEx. Orders ship from warehouses in Alberta or Ontario and typically arrive within 2–10 business days, although some remote areas might have an extra delivery charge. The mattress is vacuum-sealed, rolled, and packed securely in a compact cardboard box for easy handling.

Buyers also get a 365-night home trial, one of the longest trial periods available in Canada. If the mattress isn't quite the right fit, Douglas arranges a free pickup and issues a full refund. To help eliminate waste and give back to those in need, returned mattresses are donated to local charities or recycled when donation isn't an option. If you decide to keep the mattress, you'll get the peace of mind of the 20-year warranty's coverage.

Final Recommendation

All three Douglas Hybrid mattresses come with the same sleep trial, warranty, and free bedding bundle. The biggest difference in this Douglas hybrids comparison comes down to your budget, cooling features, and pressure relief you're looking for. If you're shopping on a budget, the Douglas Original Hybrid could be the best choice. But if you need added cooling features and pressure relief, upgrade to the Douglas Alpine Hybrid or Summit Hybrid instead.
