Mattress Construction

Both Octave Vista and Serta Perfect Sleeper are made in Canada and use a multi-layer foam construction designed to offer a balance of comfort, support, and breathability. Octave only uses foam, while the Serta mattress has a layer of pocketed coils.

• 1st Layer: 2″ of CopperGel™ memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material, a special temperature-regulating technology that pulls away extra heat when it's too hot and returns it when it's too cold. This layer contours around your body to provide pressure-point relief. It is also infused with antimicrobial copper, which helps promote a clean, fresh sleep surface while dissipating heat.
• 2nd Layer: 2″ of premium Elastex® foam, which is designed to cushion your body against the support layer while supplying a bit of responsive bounce for comfort and mobility.
• 3rd Layer: 8" of multi-zoned support foam with air channels, which provides heat regulation while also promoting proper spinal alignment.

Octave Vista's cover features navy blue sidewalls and a light blue wave pattern stitched into the surface. The top cover is made with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibers, which wick moisture away while you sleep. It's soft, cool to the touch, and fully removable thanks to a 360-degree zipper. You can unzip it and toss it in the wash for easy cleaning.

The cover isn't removable, so it should be spot-cleaned only.

In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, the Serta mattress earned a firmness score of 7.6/10. That lands it right in the firm range as advertised. Firm mattresses are usually a good match for back and stomach sleepers.

If you're looking for a mattress with balanced support to suit any sleep style, Octave Vista might be the better fit for you. It has a medium-firm feel and 6.8/10 firmness score, but still features zoned foam to make sure you feel supported.

Both mattresses hold up well when it comes to motion isolation and edge support. That's good news if you share your mattress with a partner, since you'll have more usable mattress space. You'll also be less likely to notice them moving around throughout the night.

Where Octave Differs:

Octave offers free shipping across most parts of Canada through FedEx, usually within 3–10 business days. The mattress arrives neatly packed in a recycled cardboard box and is wrapped in two layers of durable, recycled plastic to help ensure it arrives in good condition. Once unboxed and unrolled, the Octave expands fully within minutes and is ready for use the same day it's delivered.

Octave offers a longer sleep trial and warranty out of the two mattress brands at 365 nights and 15 years, respectively. If you return your Octave mattress during the sleep trial, the company will pick up the mattress for donation and issue a full refund, all for free.

Note: Serta Perfect Sleeper Elite Percevall was available in Canada through Sleep Country but has been discontinued. You may still be able to find it through some mattress resellers. We purchased this mattress from Sleep Country, so the information in this section regarding the Serta mattress is specific to Sleep Country's delivery, sleep trial, and return practices.

Sleep Country uses its own delivery service to ship mattresses across most of Canada, and offers free delivery of mattresses to some locations. However, an additional delivery fee may apply for customers in remote areas. Delivery typically takes 3–10 business days, depending on product availability and your location.

Sleep Country mattresses come with a standard 100-night sleep trial, letting you test the mattress at home before committing. If you decide to return a Serta mattress purchased through Sleep Country during the trial period, you'll need to bring it back to a Sleep Country store yourself. Instead of a refund, you'll receive store credit, which can be applied toward another mattress or any other Sleep Country product. There is a $65 exchange fee, and if you choose a more expensive mattress, you'll need to pay the difference.
