Can Canadian Shoppers Justify Dormeo’s Sky High Prices?
Dormeo Octaspring may have enjoyed a lot of attention in Europe due to its unique foam spring technology and extravagant advertising campaigns. Its debut in the Canadian market appears less noticeable, but its exorbitant prices stick out like a Canadian in shorts in the dead of winter.
The Dormeo 6800 costs over $2,000 more than similar brands online. This makes you wonder if the extra money actually pays for better quality or is just a way for them to subsidize expensive advertising campaigns. Dormeo’s customers either don’t mind the cost or believe that paying this hefty price tag is tantamount to quality and a good night’s sleep.
Since Dermeo mattresses are sold exclusively by Sleep Country, Canadian shoppers are left with a less accommodating and rigid return process. Sleep Country charges customers a $65 fee to exchange their mattresses. And if a customer wants to return their mattress altogether, they’ll only receive in-store credit instead of a full refund.
In contrast, shoppers can purchase a Canadian-made alternative like Octave, filled with advanced cooling features such as heat-dissipating copper-infused memory foam, at a price of just $899 for a queen—a far cry from Dormeo’s price tag of $3,499 for the same mattress size. Octave also provides an industry-leading 365-night risk-free sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, free returns, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.

How we reviewed the Dormeo mattress
As with all mattress reviews and comparisons on Mattress-Reviews.com, GoodMorning.com Inc. tests major online mattress brands to continually update and improve its own products. Analyzing the builds, brands, and specifications of competitor mattresses ensures GoodMorning.com always offers the best possible value to its customers.
To provide a consistent benchmark for our tests, we commission third-party engineers to test every mattress in the exact same way. You can view the methodology of testing and the APEGA-stamped results document here.

Dormeo Octaspring is an international brand owned by Studio Moderna Group. The mattress line, which features a variety of beds across premium price points, heavily promotes its Octaspring foam layers. Instead of solid layers of foam, the Octasprings are aerated foam cylinders laid out in rows, aiming to circulate airflow.
In 2012, the European e-commerce company began selling and assembling their mattresses in the United States, with Canada and Japan following soon after. Dormeo mattresses in Canada are sold exclusively through Sleep Country.

Canadian Orders: Sleep Country uses the Purolator Ground shipping service to deliver the Dormeo mattress directly to customers’ doors. Shipping is free to all provinces except Newfoundland and Labrador ($120 CAD surcharge), and Dormeo customers can expect their new mattress to be delivered within 10 business days.
Like many mattress retailers, Sleep Country heavily promotes their Comfort Guarantee. At 100 nights, this sleep trial is average in length. Sleep Country differs from most online mattress retailers in regards to the limitations of their exchange policy:
- Dormeo mattresses can only be returned at Sleep Country for in-store credit.
- Customers who decide to return their Dormeo mattress must pay an exchange fee of $65 CAD to cover delivery of the new item and removal of the returned mattress. This approach to sleep trials and returns is different from mattress lines like Octave, who offer a 365-night trial and free returns.
It is worth noting that Mattress-Reviews.com did not complete the return process, but received this information via the ‘Live Chat’ function on Sleep Country’s website. When returning a Dormeo 6800, please refer to the Sleep Country warranty listed on the company’s website.
Dormeo Mattress: Out of the Box

The Dormeo Octaspring 6800 is a 12-inch combination foam mattress. By combining different foam types, densities, and firmness levels, Dormeo has designed a configuration that offers reasonable comfort, cooling, and support.
Dormeo offers different firmness levels, thicknesses, and features across its mattress assortment; however, this particular model is available only in one firmness option.
Dormeo Mattress Layers
The Dormeo Octaspring 6800 mattress contains four layers of foam. Like many of the memory foam mattresses on the Canadian market, each layer of foam in the Dormeo 6800 works with the others to provide an overall level of comfort and support.
- First layer: One inch of high-density memory foam. This top layer contours to your body while providing a cushioning feel as you lie down. Foam density: 5 lbs/ft³.
- Second and third layers: Two layers of Octasprings, each made up of two-inch EcoSprings™ between two half-inch Ecocell™ foam layers. Rows of aerated cylindrical foam springs span the length of the bed, promoting pressure-point relief and motion isolation while allowing air to circulate within these two central layers. Foam density: Unspecified.
- Fourth layer: Five inches of Ecocell™ support foam. This thick bottom layer of foam assists with the overall structure of the mattress, supporting the flexible foam springs above while keeping sleepers from sinking in too far. Foam density: 2 lbs/ft³.
Of note: The bottom three layers are made up of EcoCell™, a form of polyurethane which is infused with soy. According to the law label, the materials used to make the Dormeo Octaspring mattress are of imported origin.
Dormeo Mattress Cover
Like many of its online counterparts, the Dormeo Octaspring tested in this review features a removable white top cover. The blend of polyester, Lyocell, and elastane is soft to the touch and features leaf-shaped stitching across its surface. According to the law label, unlike most bed-in-a-box mattresses, the top cover is not machine washable; however, since the cover can be unzipped and removed, this makes it easier to spot clean.
The lower portion of the Dormeo 6800 cover is a two-tone mix of orange and grey, with the Dormeo logo placed prominently along the foot of the mattress. According to the company, the mesh sidewalls allow warm air to escape instead of being trapped inside the mattress.
Dormeo Mattress: Environmental Sustainability
GoodMorning.com Inc. carried out a survey in February 2017, discovering that almost 50% of Canadians are willing to spend more money for more environmentally friendly products. Therefore, in every review on Mattress-Reviews.com, we will highlight each mattress company’s green philosophy, as well as how prominent their policies are on their websites.

Feel & Firmness
The Dormeo Octaspring 6800 has a medium-soft firmness level. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), it comes in at a 4.2 / 10 on the firmness spectrum. Dormeo’s surface has a bit of ‘hug’ but is otherwise evenly supportive
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation in foam mattresses is usually very good and one of the main reasons couples make the switch from innerspring to memory foam. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Dormeo Octaspring 6800 rated 6 /10 on the motion isolation scale.
Edge Support
Foam mattresses are not known for their edge support; in fact, it is often one of the main considerations for customers who move from innerspring mattresses to foam. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Dormeo Octaspring 6800 mattress has an edge support rating of 5.7 / 10.
Bounce
Due to the fact that motion isolation for foam mattresses is very high, bounce is usually very low. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Dormeo Octaspring 6800 scored 6.2 / 10 on the bounce scale, higher than most other foam mattresses.

Who buys a Dormeo mattress?
Dormeo Octaspring became well-known in Europe due in part to its sales infomercials, unique foam spring system, and multimillion-dollar ad campaigns. In Canada, however, these marketing benefits may not have translated as the mattress was introduced on the other side of the Atlantic. Due to the high price point – over $2,000 more than made-to-order online brands – the typical Dormeo buyer is either: (1) not very price sensitive; or (2) motivated to invest heavily in their mattress. They are also likely to consider brands like Tempurpedic and Beautyrest Black. Dormeo customers may also be inclined to negotiate a lower price with their salesperson or delay their purchase until a large seasonal sale.
For Canadian shoppers, the in-store test is even more important. Unlike with most online mattress brands, Sleep Country issues a $65 fee for those who wish to exchange their mattress after purchase. In-store credit is the only option for returns; customers who are choosing between Dormeo Octaspring and another mattress may wish to try the one with a full refund guarantee first.
Buy Dormeo if you want:
- A medium-soft mattress with spring-like foam
- High-density memory foam
- To try the mattress in store before purchase
- The option to exchange for another Sleep Country product
- A mattress made in the USA
