Endy and Brunswick are two of the most respected mattress brands in Canada, and both brands have built up a loyal Canadian customer base. So, what are the backgrounds behind these two distinctly Canadian mattresses?
Endy
Endy is a bed-in-a-box mattress brand owned by Sleep Country, Canada’s largest chain of mattress retail stores. The company has been selling its “one-size-fits-all” foam mattress since 2015, competing with other online brands like Casper and Douglas. Endy mattresses are made in Ontario and Quebec and shipped out from distribution centres in Ontario and British Columbia. In 2022, the company expanded its mattress lineup with the Endy Hybrid, a more firm version of their foam mattress mixing foam and coils.
Brunswick
Brunswick was introduced by GoodMorning.com in late 2018 as a classic hybrid mattress, made for modern Canadians. The design, build, and comfort are meant to be refreshingly simple and familiar while leveraging some of the best innovations in modern mattress making (e.g. hemp-based fabric, zoned pocketed springs). The spring-foam hybrid is sold online, compressed in a box, and shipped directly to customers’ doors throughout the country.

With the rise in popularity of ‘bed-in-a-box’, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than traditional mattresses. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery as boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same day delivery to certain areas.
Endy uses UPS to deliver their mattresses to Canadians. Brunswick uses FedEx. Both mattresses will be delivered directly to customers doors throughout most parts of Canada. In some cases, the mattresses can even be left on a porch or deck while the customer is at work.
Shipping time for the Endy mattress and Brunswick mattress is similar. Both Endy and Brunswick will be delivered within 10 business days.
As with any bed-in-a-box brand, Endy and Brunswick heavily promote their in-home sleep trials. Brunswick has the longest sleep trial of the two mattresses at 120 nights. Endy offers a respectable 100 nights.
If a customer wishes to return their Endy mattress or Brunswick mattress within the sleep trial, both companies will arrange to pick the mattresses up and issue a full refund. There are no additional return or restocking fees for either mattress.

Both the Endy and Brunswick mattresses arrived within the expected delivery times. Each product was well-protected within the box by heavy-duty plastic to keep the mattress in good condition during shipping.
Each mattress box was sealed with heavy-duty tape. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the box. To prevent potential harm to your new mattress, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to remove any packaging.
Once opened, each compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattress out from its cardboard container. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. It’s most efficient to do this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
Both mattresses are protected with multiple layers of heavy-duty plastic to compress it in a vacuum seal and keep it tightly rolled up for shipping.
Customers will need to unwrap the outer layer in order to unroll the mattress, which will still be in its compressed form. Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled up mattress onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find and peel back the outer layer of plastic. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattress will be lying unrolled before you.
Next, cut the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal now broken, the mattress will quickly begin to decompress. Remove this final layer of plastic as the mattress expands to its full height. Both mattresses reached full expansion in under 10 minutes.

The Endy and Brunswick mattresses are constructed very differently. The Endy mattress is a tight-top combination foam mattress, whereas Brunswick is a spring hybrid with a Euro-top. Both mattresses are available in only one firmness option.
Another major differences between Endy and Brunswick is the foam used for comfort, contouring, and pressure-point relief, not to mention the support layers for motion isolation and edge support. Each mattress contains comfort, transition, and support layers, and these layers vary in height, density, and materials.
Also, both mattresses have a unique top cover which showcases each brand’s mattress design. Endy’s cover is removable and machine washable, while Brunswick’s cover is securely attached and cannot be removed.
Endy vs Brunswick Mattress Layers

Endy Mattress Layers
The Endy mattress contains 3 layers of foam:
- The first layer of the Endy mattress is 2” of Endy comfort foam. This layer is designed to provide optimal comfort and temperature performance. Layer density: undisclosed.
- The second layer of the Endy mattress is 3” of polyurethane foam. This layer works with the comfort layer to provide an additional level of support and will help conform to the body. Layer density: 1.8lbs/ft3.
- The final layer of foam in the Endy mattress is 5” of polyurethane foam. This layer which gives the Endy mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far. Layer density: 1.8lbs/ft3.
Of note: Endy does not provide density information for their top layer of foam. When Mattress-Reviews.com previously contacted Endy customer support, they would not provide density information for the Endy Comfort Foam layer. Their representative told us “the foam is a uniquely designed foam which is proprietary, which means we don’t give out the exact specifications.” It is also worth noting that Endy decided to remove the cooling gel from its top proprietary layer in 2018. 1.8lbs/ft3.
Brunswick Mattress Layers
- Cover fill: 0.25 inches of Dacron fiberfill. This fluffy and lightweight material fills the cover's tufting and gives the mattress its distinct shape and initial softness.
- First layer: 0.75 inches of cooling gel foam. This first layer of foam is notable for its softness and heat-dissipating qualities, exactly what you want from the uppermost layer of the mattress.
- Second layer: 1 inch of cooling gel memory foam. While providing additional heat regulation, the use of a thin layer of memory foam in this important placement creates some gentle body contouring helps to relieve pressure points.
- Third layer: 1 inch of high-density bio foam. This is the transition layer that separates the softer, responsive layers above and the firm support of the pocketed coil base below. Since this high-density layer is more rigid than most, the mattress can achieve its medium-firm feel that the vast majority of Canadian sleepers enjoy. Had a more responsive layer been used in this position, the Brunswick mattress would have ended up feeling softer. The foam is created from a blend of traditional polyurethane and environmentally conscious soy oil.
- Fourth layer: 8 inches of multi-tempered pocketed steel coils with a 4-inch foam encasement perimeter. This layer of individually wrapped springs contributes to the mattress's perceived firmness, support, and overall integrity. The coil design helps to minimize motion transfer because each coil compresses individually. The pocketed coils are also arranged into three distinct zones across the length of the mattress. The central third has thicker springs that take more weight to compress, while the springs on either side are lighter to allow for more cushioning. Because the majority of body weight resides in this central region, the zoned support system helps sleepers to maintain spinal alignment and reduce instances of morning back pain.
Endy vs Brunswick Mattress Cover
Endy
Brunswick
Endy Mattress Cover
The Endy mattress has a two-tone cover. The bottom part of the cover is a heavier duty grey fabric, and the top part of the cover is white with a diamond knit pattern. The top part of the cover is made primarily of polyester and contains a small amount of lycra for stretch. Unlike other mattresses on the market, Endy does not highlight eco-friendly fabric. The top portion of the Endy mattress can be unzipped and cleaned in the washing machine as necessary.
Brunswick Mattress Cover
Appearance
The Brunswick mattress has a distinct cover that makes it instantly recognizable among its competitors in the online mattress industry. The white Euro-top cover is tufted in channels from end to end along its top portion and sidewalls. This gently lifts the fabric, making the mattress seem soft and inviting even before you lie down. Most notably, the green checkered gusset spans the full perimeter and gives Brunswick its colour and personality.
Materials
Brunswick’s white cover is a modern blend of polyester, hemp, and spandex. These stretchable and breathable materials are further strengthened by hemp, a material that few other bed-in-a-box mattresses have yet to adopt. Hemp is naturally antimicrobial and has three times the tensile strength of cotton. The Brunswick top cover is not machine washable and can be spot cleaned only.

Should you buy the Endy or Brunswick?
There are a lot of similiarities between these two successful Canadian mattress brands. Both are owned by established mattress companies (Sleep Country, GoodMorning.com), and both offer free shipping and free returns, allowing customers to skip the store experience and test out their mattresses at home. An initial consideration for undecided shoppers is whether you prefer the feeling of sleeping on a foam bed or sleeping on a classic spring mattress.
With that said, there are a number of advantages to each brand. Endy has been sold for nearly four years longer, having already established a heavy market presence by partnering with social media influencers and drawing on the advertising strengths of their parent company, Sleep Country. You can drive to local resellers or Endy stores to try out the mattress before you decide to buy. Its machine-washable cover comes in handy if you don’t use a mattress protector.
Meanwhile, Brunswick offers a longer sleep trial and default warranty. Brunswick’s edge support and bounce ratings were higher than Endy’s, two key considerations for heavier individuals who require more support from their bed. The hybrid bed also offers zoned lower back support in the centre of the bed, which Endy lacks. Either choice supports Canadian manufacturing, and both companies arrange for lightly used mattresses to be donated to local charities.
Buy Endy if you want:
- A firm to medium-firm foam mattress
- Plenty of “hug” and top-layer cushioning
- A brand with celebrity endorsements
- To try out the mattress at select resellers
Buy Brunswick if you want:
- A supportive hybrid mattress
- Higher edge support and bounce ratings
- A longer sleep trial and warranty
- Targeted lower-back support
- Multiple eco-conscious materials
- A motion-isolating Euro-top with cooling foam
