Amerisleep and Logan & Cove are two of the most well-known mattress brands in Canada, and both brands have built up a loyal Canadian customer base. So, what are the backgrounds of both Amerisleep and Logan & Cove?
Amerisleep introduced their first bed-in-a-box mattress in 2007 and were one of the first adopters of the boxed mattress concept. Amerisleep sell five variations of their memory foam mattress based on firmness and have positioned themselves as an eco-technology mattress brand.
After nearly a full decade of research by GoodMorning.com, the Logan & Cove mattress was released in early 2018. It quickly grew to become one of the best-selling boxed hybrid mattresses in Canada, even outpacing some brands that had helped define the segment. The combination of premium materials with luxury stylings is still seen as an attractive alternative to similar retail store models which sell for up to a few thousand dollars more.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same day delivery to certain areas.
Amerisleep uses UPS and FedEx to deliver their mattresses throughout Canada and the United States. Logan & Cove use FedEx, but their mattress is available only in Canada. Both mattresses are delivered directly to customers’ doors throughout most parts of Canada. In some cases, the mattresses can even be left on a porch or deck while the customer is away from home.
Amerisleep offers free shipping in the contiguous United States, but delivery to Canada includes a $199 USD fee. And since Amerisleep delivers worldwide, shipping times will vary; however, Canadian shoppers can expect their Amerisleep mattress to arrive within 3 to 4 weeks after placing their orders.
Logan & Cove offers free shipping throughout Canada, and customers can expect their mattresses to arrive within 7 to 10 days.
Like many bed-in-a-box companies, Amerisleep and Logan & Cove both heavily promote their sleep trials. With a 120-night sleep trial, Logan & Cove has one of the longest sleep trials of all mattress brands, while Amerisleep allows their customers 100 days to decide.
However, if a customer wishes to return their Amerisleep or Logan & Cove mattress within the sleep trial period, each company will arrange to pick up their respective mattress and issue a full refund. There are no additional return or restocking fees for either the Amerisleep or Logan & Cove mattress.

Both the Amerisleep and Logan & Cove mattresses were delivered to us within the expected time frames. Each product was well-protected within the box by heavy-duty plastic to keep the mattress in good condition during shipping.
Each mattress box was sealed with heavy-duty tape. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the box. To prevent potential harm to your new mattress, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to remove any packaging.
Once opened, each compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattress out from its cardboard container. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. It’s most efficient to do this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
Both mattresses are protected with multiple layers of heavy-duty plastic – a thick inner layer to keep it compressed in a vacuum seal, and thinner outer layers to keep the mattress tightly rolled in a cylinder shape.
Customers will need to unwrap the outer layers in order to unroll the mattress, which will still be in its compressed form. Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled up mattress onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find and peel back the outer layer of plastic. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattress will be lying unrolled before you.
Next, cut the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal now broken, the mattress will quickly begin to decompress. Remove this final layer of plastic as the mattress expands to its full height. With Logan & Cove, full expansion took 1 minute. With the Amerisleep mattress, it took 3 minutes.

The Amerisleep and Logan & Cove mattresses are constructed very differently. The Amerisleep AS3 is a combination foam mattress, whereas the Logan & Cove is a foam-coil hybrid. While Logan & Cove is available in one firmness option, Amerisleep currently offers five different firmness levels. The AS3 mattress used for this review is their medium firmness option.
Some of the major differences between the Amerisleep mattress and Logan & Cove mattress are the different types of foams used for comfort, contouring, and pressure-point relief, not to mention the support layers for motion isolation and edge support. Each mattress contains comfort, transition, and support layers, and these layers vary slightly in height and density.
Also, each mattress has a unique top cover which showcases the brand’s personality and design aesthetic.
Logan & Cove is proudly made with foams, coils, and fabrics sourced from Canadian manufacturers.
Amerisleep vs Logan & Cove Mattress Layers
Amerisleep

Logan & Cove

Amerisleep Mattress Layers
The Amerisleep mattress contains three layers of foam:
- The first layer of the Amerisleep AS3 mattress is 3″ of Bio-Pur™ memory foam. This top layer is designed to provide a balance between body support and heat-regulating performance. At a density of 4 lbs/ft3, this qualifies as high-density foam.
- The second portion of the Amerisleep AS3 mattress is a 2″ affinity foam layer. At 1.5 lbs/ft3, this layer is considered low density. This transitional layer helps with body contouring, pressure-point relief, and prevents a sleeper from sinking too far into the Amerisleep mattress.
- The third and final layer of the Amerisleep AS3 mattress is 7″ of Bio-Core™ support foam. This bottom section serves to maintain body alignment while reducing the likelihood of pressure points from forming. This layer also has a density of 1.5 lbs/ft3.
Logan & Cove Mattress Layers
Both versions of the Logan & Cove mattress are made with the same five layers:
- Cover fill: Silk-blend pillow-top fill. The lightweight fill resting immediately beneath the cover is soft to the touch, antimicrobial, heat-regulating, and breathable.
- First layer: 0.75 inches of high-density cooling gel foam. The first of two consecutive cooling layers is primarily designed to offer immediate cushioning and a hint of body contouring.
- Second layer: 1 inch of cooling gel memory foam. This responsive material helps with cushioning and heat regulation around the sleeping surface.
- Third layer: 1 inch of soy-infused bio foam. This layer provides body contouring and pressure-point relief in the neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees.
- Fourth layer: 2 inches of soy-infused eco foam. This thicker layer of foam is the main transition layer between the pillow-top and the bottom support layer, helping to balance both the cushioning and supportive properties of the mattress. It also further establishes the overall body contouring and pressure-relieving properties.
- Fifth layer: 8 inches of individually pocketed coils. The pocketed coils are made from multi-tempered recycled steel. They provide robust support and motion isolation across the entire sleep surface. In the central third of the bed (under the hips), Logan & Cove uses a thicker gauge of steel in order to prevent the hips from sinking down too far. This arrangement helps to promote spinal alignment and reduce pressure points. Logan & Cove has one of the thickest centre thirds of any coil-based mattress.
Of note: The full perimeter of the mattress is encased with 4 inches of rigid support foam to allow you to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed. Polyfiber layers above and below the pocketed coils make up the remaining 0.75 inches of Logan & Cove’s 14-inch vertical profile.
Though the two firmness models use all of the same primary layers, the differences in density and force deflection ratings between the foam layers results in the overall differences in feel and firmness between the two mattresses.
Amerisleep vs Logan & Cove Mattress Cover
Amerisleep

Logan & Cove

Amerisleep Mattress Cover
The Amerisleep mattress has a simple two-tone cover, an attractive contrast between a navy blue wall and the white sleep surface above. The five different mattresses are identifiable by how far the white cover descends down the side of the mattress. A zipper along the bottom of the mattress allows you to remove the cover entirely, while one midway along the mattress wall lets you remove just the machine-washable cover for when it needs cleaning. The cover itself is made from a blend of polyester, Celliant® fabric, and spandex, a mixture meant to optimize softness and breathability.
Logan & Cove Mattress Cover
Logan & Cove's impressive quilting is full of intricate details, ones normally reserved for higher price segments. The design uses diamond-tufting, accent stitching, glossy fabrics, and other elegant touches to make a mattress you can't help but want to run your hands across.
To keep you cool and comfortable through the night, the white quilting is heavily infused with Tencel®. Tencel is widely known for its breathability and moisture-wicking qualities. Altogether, this level of luxury styling is all but unheard of in the mattress-in-a-box category, and especially at Logan & Cove's pricepoint.Amerisleep vs Logan & Cove: Environmental Sustainability
