Without further adieu, our Novosbed vs Endy vs Douglas Mattress Review:
Novosbed vs Endy vs Douglas: Company Overview
Novosbed

Endy

Douglas

Novosbed, Endy, and Douglas are three of the most well-known mattress brands in Canada, and all three brands have built up a loyal customer base. Novosbed, Endy, and Douglas are all Canadian brands, with Novosbed and Douglas based in Alberta and Endy based in Toronto. All three brands have been selling mattresses to Canadians for multiple years. So, what are the backgrounds behind Novosbed, Endy, and Douglas?
Novosbed
GoodMorning.com released their first memory foam mattress, Novosbed, in 2009, making them one of the pioneers of the bed-in-a-box mattress industry. Their innovative culture soon went on to create the now universal idea of the ‘Sleep Trial,’ giving online mattress shoppers a way to bypass the traditional mattress store shopping experience and test out their new bed at home for as long as it actually takes to evaluate a mattress properly. With their flagship product, Novosbed, the company later introduced another new concept with Comfort+. This adjustable firmness system helps customers adjust the feel and comfort level of their mattress by adding an additional foam layer, free of charge.
Endy
Endy is a bed-in-a-box mattress brand owned by Sleep Country, Canada’s largest chain of mattress retail stores. The company has been selling its “one-size-fits-all” foam mattress since 2015, competing with other online brands like Casper and Douglas. Endy mattresses are made in Quebec and shipped out from distribution centres in Ontario and British Columbia. In Summer 2019, Endy Sleep launched the Mira mattress, a value brand sold for $300 less than Endy and with an additional 30 days on its sleep trial. Though new brands tend to leverage the established credibility and market trust of their parent company, neither Endy nor Mira chose to publicly disclose their relationship in the first few months following launch.
Douglas
Douglas was introduced in 2017 by Canadian bed-in-a-box company GoodMorning.com. Only available in Canada, Douglas was manufactured as a single-firmness mattress, designed using eight years worth of engineering data and customer feedback. GoodMorning.com designed the Douglas to be a value-packed, Canadian-made mattress at an unheard-of low price. They offer the same level of customer service for the Douglas as they do across their growing catalog, not to mention an industry leading sleep trial and warranty.

With the rise in popularity of ‘bed-in-a-box’, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than traditional mattresses. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery as boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some ‘bed-in-a-box’ companies even offer same day delivery to certain areas.
Douglas and Novosbed both use FED/EX to deliver their mattresses to Canadians, whereas Endy uses UPS to deliver their mattress. All three brands are delivered directly to customers doors throughout most parts of Canada. In some cases, the mattresses can even be left on a porch or deck whilst the customer is at work.
Shipping time for Novosbed, Endy, and, Douglas is the same. The Novosbed, Endy, and Douglas mattress will all be delivered within 10 days.
As with any bed-in-a-box brand, Novosbed, Endy, and Douglas heavily promote their in-home sleep trials. Novosbed and Douglas both have one of the longest sleep trials in Canada with a 120-night sleep trial. Endy only offers a 100-night sleep trial.
If a customer wishes to return their Novosbed, Endy, or Douglas mattress within the sleep trial, all three companies will arrange to pick the mattresses up and issue a full refund. There are no additional return or restocking fees any of the three mattresses.
Novosbed vs Endy vs Novosbed: Out of the Box

Expansion time: | 5 minutes | 2 minutes | 3 minutes |
The Novosbed mattress, Endy mattress, and Douglas mattress were all delivered to us within the expected delivery time. All three mattresses were well protected by heavy-duty plastic layers within the boxes to protect the mattresses during shipping.
The Novosbed, Endy, and Douglas mattress boxes were all sealed with heavy duty tape. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the box. Remember to be extra careful when opening the box with sharp objects.
Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. A simple ‘tip-and-pull’ motion is what we recommend. Simply tip the box from a vertical position into a horizontal position and pull the mattress out of the box. We recommend doing this process in the designated bedroom.
The Novosbed mattress, Endy mattress, and Douglas mattress are all protected with multiple layers of heavy-duty plastic and customers will need to unwrap the first layer of plastic in order to change the mattress from a cylindrical shape into a flat, albeit compressed, shape.
Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled mattress on to the designated bed frame, find the end of the outer layer plastic, pull it loose, and use the resulting momentum to roll the mattress into position on the frame. Once in position, remove that outer plastic layer. After completing this process, customers will see a folded and unrolled mattress. Simply unfold the mattress, the top cover will be facing up, and place the corners in the correct position on the frame of foundation.
Next, cut the final layer of plastic and the new Novosbed, Endy, or Douglas mattress will start decompressing. Remove this final layer of plastic and the mattress should expand to its full height within a few seconds. The Novosbed expanded to its full height within 5 minutes, whereas, the Endy and Douglas took 3 minutes.

One of the major differences between the Novosbed, Endy, and Douglas mattresses are the different types of foam used for comfort and support. Each mattress contains comfort, transition, and support layers, and these layers vary slightly in height and density.
Also, each mattress has a unique top cover which showcases each brand’s mattress design. Top covers are sometimes washable, and out of the three mattresses tested, both the Novosbed and Douglas has a machine-washable top cover.

Novosbed Mattress Layers
Each Novosbed mattress contains four layers of foam. The soft, medium, and firm options all have different constructions and foam densities to customize the firmness level of the mattress.
Novosbed Soft Mattress:
- The first layer of the Novosbed mattress is 1” of high-density gel-infused memory foam. The ultra-durable top layer delivers responsive cooling and conforms to the body for a medium-soft feel. Foam density: 3.7 lbs/ft3.
- The second layer of the Novosbed mattress is 1” of premium airflow foam. This breathable layer allows heat to dissipate effectively while suppressing odor build-up. Foam density: 2 lbs/ft3.
- The third layer of the Novosbed mattress is 2” of open-cell pneumatic memory foam. This transition layer reduces motion transfer while providing further airflow. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft3.
- The final layer of foam in the Novosbed mattress is 7” of premium support foam. This durable bottom layer further eliminates motion transfer by distributing bodyweight and also helps the mattress maintain its structural integrity. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft3.
- The first layer of the Novosbed mattress is 1″ of premium airflow foam. This top layer allows for additional airflow, keeping heat from getting trapped near the surface. Foam density: 2 lbs/ft3.
- The second layer of the Novosbed mattress is 1” of high-density memory foam. This additional comfort layer provides pressure-point relief. Foam density: 4 lbs/ft3.
- The third layer of the Novosbed mattress is 2” of high-density memory foam. This ultra-durable transition layer further reduces motion transfer. Foam density: 4 lbs/ft3.
- The final layer of foam in the Novosbed mattress is 7” of premium support foam. This durable bottom layer further eliminates motion transfer by distributing bodyweight and also helps the mattress maintain its structural integrity. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft3.
- The first layer of the Novosbed mattress is 2″ of open-cell pneumatic memory foam. The top layer enhances cooling and breathability while giving the surface a firm feel. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft3.
- The second layer of the Novosbed mattress is 1” of open-cell pneumatic memory foam. In combination with the first layer, this transition foam provides pressure-point relief. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft3.
- The third layer of the Novosbed mattress is 1” of high-density memory foam. This responsive transition layer provides additional body contouring.
Endy Mattress Layers
The Endy mattress contains 3 layers of foam:
- The first layer of the Endy mattress is 2” of Endy comfort foam. This layer is designed to provide optimal comfort and temperature performance.
- The second layer of the Endy mattress is 3” of polyurethane foam. This layer works with the comfort layer to provide an additional level of support and will help conform to the body.
- The final layer of foam in the Endy mattress is 5” of polyurethane foam. This layer which gives the Endy mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far.
- Endy does not provide density information for their top layer of foam. The second and third layer of the Endy mattress are both 1.8lbs/ft3.
Douglas Mattress Layers
Douglas uses three layers of foam in the construction of its Canadian-made foam mattress.- First layer: 2 inches of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. This cooling gel encourages a restful sleep by ensuring that the mattress doesn’t trap heat. The ecoLight® foam has the durability, responsiveness, and comfort of memory foam, but it has a lower carbon footprint. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft3.
- Second layer: 2 inches of Elastex® foam. This transition layer is designed to provide spring and support. Many mattresses use latex for similar reasons. Elastex® is free of the allergy-causing chemicals found in latex.
- Third layer: 6 inches of motion isolation support foam. This thick bottom layer greatly reduces motion transfer between sleepers, and it also enhances edge support.

Novosbed Mattress Cover
This distinctive Novosbed cover is an expression of the luxury that lies beneath. The soft sleep surface is woven from a blend of stretch-knit polyester and Tencel®, while the lower side walls are covered with furniture-grade upholstery. This white and chambray-blue exterior is designed not only for an attractive, signature look, but also for functionality.
The top cover is machine washable, with simple cleaning instructions:
- Zip off the upper portion of the cover;
- Put in the washing machine on a gentle cycle;
- Tumble-dry on low, or air dry.
Endy Mattress Cover
The Endy mattress has a two-tone cover. The bottom part of the cover is a heavier duty grey fabric, and the top part of the cover is white with a diamond knit pattern. The top part of the cover is made primarily of polyester and contains a small amount of lycra for stretch. Unlike other mattresses on the market, including Douglas and Novosbed, Endy does not highlight eco-conscious fabric. The top portion of the Endy mattress can be unzipped and cleaned in the washing machine as necessary.
Douglas Mattress Cover
With its mountainscape stitching to its red and white colour profile, Douglas’ Canadian-centric cover shows the brand's homegrown roots. Cut from a single piece of fabric and woven together, the design is almost seamless. The red zipper running the entire length of the side wall is the only element that breaks up this impressive white canvas.
As for upkeep, the top half is machine washable, a bonus for anyone who can't stand the thought of spot cleaning their bed by hand. Douglas' cover is composed of Natural Eucalyptus Fabric. This proprietary fabric is enhanced by fibers from sustainably farmed eucalyptus trees – stretch-knit and very soft, but also extremely durable. The cover is great for moisture wicking and breathability.
