Why It’s Best
A combination of quality construction and materials, performance, affordable prices, a lengthy sleep trial and warranty propel Douglas to earn one of the top spots on our list.
The Douglas mattress boasts a medium-firm feel that provides an optimal balance of comfort and support. This makes it a versatile choice for sleepers looking for a mattress that offers just enough “hug” while giving plenty of support to maintain spinal alignment. A slight hug can provide pressure point relief and help eliminate back pain.
In third-party testing of over 115 popular mattresses, the Douglas Summit mattress earned the top spot as the best mattress for motion isolation, closely followed by the Douglas Alpine in second place, and the Douglas Original in fourth. This means that Douglas is particularly adept at absorbing movement, making it a smart choice for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by their partner’s restless sleep.
Lastly, Douglas offers a 365-night sleep trial, one of the longest in the industry. Pair that with an incredible 20-year warranty and you have a winning combination of comfort, support, and peace of mind.

#4 Silk & Snow Hybrid
Overview
- Price (Queen): $900
- Sleep Trial: 365 nights
- Warranty: 15 years
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.9/5 (Great)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 2.53/5 (A+)
Key Features
Tufted polyester cover
12-inch height
Zoned pocket coils
Soybean-oil memory foam
Perimeter edge support
Why the Silk & Snow Hybrid Didn’t Make the Top 3
The Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress didn’t make one of the top spots on our list for several reasons (beyond its limited firmness options). As the cost of materials has shot up over the past year, Silk & Snow has kept their mattress prices relatively stable.
To do so, Silk & Snow changed its top-selling product line. For one, they found a new supplier for their steel coils. But more noticeably, the product’s construction was changed, moving from three layers of foam to just two. Where the 1-inch transition layer used to be, now the cooling gel foam layer below has been expanded by another inch to fill that space.
It’s also noticeably softer than its predecessor. Shoppers who suffer from back, hip, or joint pain may also find the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress too soft.
Lastly, Silk & Snow may not be as well established as some of its closest competitors, as seen by its poor customer review rating on Better Business Bureau. This may make Silk & Snow less appealing to price-sensitive sleepers prioritizing brand reputation and customer service.
#5 Endy Hybrid
Overview
- Price (Queen): $1,250
- Sleep Trial: 100-nights
- Warranty: 15-years (Conditional)
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.6/5 (Average)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: Unaccredited
Key Features
4 layer design
13-inch height
Zoned pocket coils
Euro-top construction
Endy comfort foam
Why the Endy Hybrid Didn’t Make the Top 3
Endy, owned by Sleep Country, is one of Canada’s most well-known bed-in-a-box mattress brands. Since the Endy mattress arrived on the scene, it has stuck to selling its lone, foam-based mattress. In 2022, the brand launched the Endy Hybrid, its first hybrid mattress.
Despite the brand’s paid partnerships with social media influencers and lifestyle blogger, Endy has yet to such efforts translate to positive reviews from actual customers. On Trustpilot, Endy only rates as “Average,” and the brand is unaccredited by the Better Business Bureau. But there are other reasons why Endy didn’t land in one of the top spots on our Best Mattress For Back Pain list.
Selling for $1,250 CAD, the Endy Hybrid falls squarely into the mid-market price category. Shoppers might also be excited to see that the hybrid features zoned pocketed coils. Still, it does not come with cooling gel foam, high-density memory foam, or the sought-after pillow top that many competitors offer.
However, the biggest drawback would be the Endy Hybrid’s firmness. While most hybrid mattresses emphasize firmness and support, the Endy Hybrid is one the softest hybrid mattresses we’ve reviewed on this website. Like the Silk & Snow Hybrid, heavier shoppers who suffer from back, hip, or joint pain may also find this mattress too soft.
#6 Hush Artic Luxe
Overview
- Price (Queen): $1,695
- Sleep Trial: 100-nights
- Warranty: 10-years
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.1/5 (Average)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 2.13/5 (F)
Key Features
5 layer design
13-inch height
Zoned support
Pillow-top construction
Cooling fabric cover
Why the Hush Artic Luxe Didn’t Make the Top 3
Hush initially launched their weighted blanket back in 2018. Their popular bedding line attracted customers, enticing Sleep Country to purchase a majority share in the company. In August 2021, Hush announced the launch of their first-ever mattress.
The Hush Artic Luxe is a good mattress with solid qualities and desirable features. But a few significant areas for improvement had the mattress come up short compared to its competitors.
First and foremost, price. With a price tag of $1,695 CAD, the Hush mattress is several hundred dollars more than other Canadian mattresses with similar (or better) offerings.
Its closest comparison is the Logan & Cove mattress (our winner for Best Mattress For Back Pain). The Logan & Cove too has a quilted pillow-top, five layers, and zoned Canadian steel coils. But for around $350 CAD less, Logan & Cove also offers two firmness choices, silk and satin flourishes, an extra inch of height, stronger edge support, a longer sleep trial and warranty.
Then there are customer reviews. Several complaints have been lodged against the company, most notably through the Better Business Bureau, Trustpilot, and even on Reddit. Customers have accused Hush of not honouring their mattress return policy and selling inventory not currently in stock.
Finally, according to third-party engineer test results, the Hush Arctic Luxe mattress earned a firmness rating of 6.7 / 10. This would classify the mattress as “medium-firm,” a little less firm than the company suggests in its marketing materials. Customers looking for a firm mattress to help alleviate their back pain may wish to search elsewhere.
#7 Nectar
Overview
- Price (Queen): $899
- Sleep Trial: 365-nights
- Warranty: Lifetime
- Made In: USA
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.7/5 (Average)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 1/5
Key Features
5 layer design
13-inch height
Zoned support
Pillow-top construction
Cooling fabric cover
Why Nectar Didn’t Make the Top 3
For better or worse, an unforgettable buying experience typically boils down to three key factors: price, quality, and customer service. If a mattress company can nail this trifecta, it should be able to serve up sweet dreams night after night.
The Nectar mattress may have some positive features, such as an appealing trial period and warranty, but there may be better options for sleepers suffering from back pain. Although Nectar describes their mattress as medium-firm, third-party testing indicates it is pretty soft and has little edge support. This can be especially problematic for sleepers needing extra support to alleviate back pain.
Nectar does a great job promoting how many mattresses they’ve sold and their favourable customer reviews. However, it’s a different story where Nectar doesn’t control the narrative. Reviews on sites like Trustpilot, the Better Business Bureau, and Reddit highlight real customers’ concerns when dealing with Nectar. To top it off, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has charged Nectar’s parent company, Resident Home LLC, multiple times for false advertising claims.
Canadian shoppers looking for a foam mattress to alleviate their back pain may consider other options from more reputable Canadian companies.
#8 DreamCloud
Overview
- Price (Queen): $1,399
- Sleep Trial: 365-nights
- Warranty: Lifetime
- Made In: USA
- Trustpilot Rating: 2.6/5 (Poor)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 1/5
Key Features
1% Cashmere cover
14-inch height
5 layer design
Shift-resistant lower cover
Why DreamCloud Didn’t Make the Top 3
DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress that’s been on the market since 2018 and was made available in Canada in December 2022. Although it boasts a 365-night sleep trial and a “Lifetime Warranty,” it has drawbacks.
Commissioned third-party engineer testing concluded that DreamCloud has a firmness rating of 5.7/ 10. DreamCloud tied with the Endy Hybrid as the softest hybrid mattress ever tested by Mattress-Reviews.com. If you weigh over 125 pounds or like to sleep on your back and stomach, DreamCloud may not have enough support to keep your spine in a comfortable, neutral position.
Selling at $1,399 for a queen, the DreamCloud sits just outside of the mid-market price point. Meanwhile, it lacks luxury features offered by its Canadian competitors at lower price points, like zoned support.
Finally, DreamCloud’s lack of transparency regarding where the mattress is made is also a cause for concern. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has fined the company multiple times for falsely claiming that its mattresses are made in the USA. It’s also ranked #2 on a pinned r/Mattress subreddit post for top brands to avoid, with sister brand Nectar taking the top spot.
#9 Casper Wave Hybrid
Overview
- Price (Queen): $3,995
- Sleep Trial: 100-nights
- Warranty: 10-years
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.9/5 (Great)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 1.09/5
Key Features
5 layer design
13-inch height
Zoned support
Gel Pods
AirScape foam layers
Why the Casper Wave Hybrid Didn’t Make the Top 3
Casper is one of the most well-known mattress brands in North America. Known for its splashy advertising campaigns, the brand has been making headlines for overspending and operating at a loss year over the past few years.
While some shoppers may be ready to pay Casper’s exorbitant prices, those on a tighter budget and requiring a more supportive mattress should look elsewhere. The Wave Hybrid Mattress will cost its Canadian buyers a staggering $3,995 CAD for a queen. That number jumps to $4,495 CAD for customers who opt for the Snow Technology cooling upgrade.
The Wave Hybrid offers zoned firmness with the help of its unique supportive gel pods. They’re placed under your waist and lower back to prevent sinking and promote spinal alignment. That being said, the mattress is only medium-firm and may not provide enough support for heavier individuals or those with back problems.
Competitors like Logan & Cove offer more features and come in at a more competitive price ($999 CAD vs $3,995 CAD). Logan & Cove offers two firmness options, silk and satin flourishes, an extra two inches of mattress height, extended sleep trial and mattress warranty.
Final Thoughts
Finding the right mattress is essential to getting a good night’s sleep and alleviating back pain. The right mattress will provide the balance between offering enough support to maintain spinal alignment and cushioning to provide pressure point relief.
Factors like motion isolation, edge support, and durability should also be considered when mattress shopping.
The Top 3 Best Mattress For Back Pain on our list have been chosen for their ability to meet these criteria and provide the ultimate sleeping experience.
Now that you have all the information you need, it’s time to make a choice and start shopping. We hope that our guide has been helpful in your search for the perfect mattress for you. If you’re ready to take the next step and get the best price on one of our Top 3 Picks, click the links below!
